Other than bears will sometimes eat the fleshy part of the plant near the roots, I do see a damage to some blossoms. I suspect something is taking a bite or two.
The complexity of this plant never fails to amaze me. I laughed at your comment about the challenges of “changing scale.” I’ve found it’s true. After photographing tiny flowers for a while, it takes some sort of “eye adjustment” to turn to something larger. Beyond that, I finally figured out that each lens seems to have its own sweet spot. I don’t really know what I’m talking about, but I’ve noticed it. 🙂
It is indeed a very complex plant. It’s the only evergreen member of the lily family, at least in our region. The flowering come from off-shoot plants that grow near the base of the main clump and they die after flowering. Individual plants flower only every 5-10 years. I wonder of that doesn’t suggest a weather cycle that we don’t fully recognize.
Favourite of all. Congrats.

I don’t think we have bear grass around here, so it’s a treat to learn something about it. Such a complicated design, delicate, and intricate.

For the present, it has taken over large parts of the forest, more so than in most years. I will enjoy it while it blooms!

Do you know if any animals eat it?

I thought that the light was just perfect on that one blossom. It seemed to sparkle right in the middle of an otherwise shaded area.

I love when the sunlight hits one thing and makes it glow. So pretty.

We pretty much take light for granted, but it can do some beautiful things in the forest or in a park.

Bear grass is very photogenic. I’m so used to taking pictures of such tiny flowers that a blossom 6 inches tall and 3 inches across is a challenge.
