  2. I don’t think we have bear grass around here, so it’s a treat to learn something about it. Such a complicated design, delicate, and intricate.

    • For the present, it has taken over large parts of the forest, more so than in most years. I will enjoy it while it blooms!

    • I thought that the light was just perfect on that one blossom. It seemed to sparkle right in the middle of an otherwise shaded area.

    • We pretty much take light for granted, but it can do some beautiful things in the forest or in a park.

    • Bear grass is very photogenic. I’m so used to taking pictures of such tiny flowers that a blossom 6 inches tall and 3 inches across is a challenge.

  7. The complexity of this plant never fails to amaze me. I laughed at your comment about the challenges of “changing scale.” I’ve found it’s true. After photographing tiny flowers for a while, it takes some sort of “eye adjustment” to turn to something larger. Beyond that, I finally figured out that each lens seems to have its own sweet spot. I don’t really know what I’m talking about, but I’ve noticed it. 🙂

    • It is indeed a very complex plant. It’s the only evergreen member of the lily family, at least in our region. The flowering come from off-shoot plants that grow near the base of the main clump and they die after flowering. Individual plants flower only every 5-10 years. I wonder of that doesn’t suggest a weather cycle that we don’t fully recognize.
