Montana Outdoors
Easy walking here, but you’d want to have warm clothes. It looks a wee bit chilly.

Yes, warm clothes are a must, but it has gotten to that time of winter when the cold air feels so good on my face.

Wish I could say the same for our winter here. I feel like the wind is looking for any hands and lips left to chap.

Fortunately, because of the topography where my house is located I receive very little real wind.

It is, and at all times of the year. Sunrise and sunset are the best times.

I wonder if the steam made frost grow on all the twigs. It does that sometimes.

Yes it did. There was a little sun today, just enough to melt a little of the frost only on the south side of the trees.

I hereby nominate “a very pleasant place for a morning walk” as the understatement of the winter. I recognize that road, and it’s a beautiful place in all its seasons.

That road runs past the entrance to my driveway and I consider it a treasure, never to be taken for granted. On it I can walk a short way or many miles and do so in all kinds of weather. From it I can drop down to the river and catch a trout for dinner, or hike up several miles, take a side road and get into some very wild back country. On it I have seen Fox, Coyote, Cougar, Bear, Porcupine, Raccoon, Rabbit, Wolf, Deer, Elk, Moose, Bighorn Sheep, and all kinds of birds, from hummingbirds to wild turkeys. One of my fondness wishes would be that everyone could have such easy access to such a road.

I can almost feel the crunch of snow underfoot looking at this image. It looks a very nice road for a walk indeed.

At the current temperatures, the crunch of snow underfoot has become the “squeek” of icy snow, but my best friend Buster and I walk at least four miles every day on that road and enjoy every inch of it. (He will sniff out anything that I might otherwise miss.)

Hiking with my friend gives me great pleasure. It picks up my spirits to see his demonstration of pure joy in each hike we take.

It is a great place for a walk and I do walk there nearly every day. It’s amazing how it changes with the seasons and even day-to-day.

Yes, my favorite road. When I was about 8 years old I started driving an old tractor up that road to a hayfield above.

I posted one several days ago of a sunrise. That was taken from inside the edge of the steam. It’s like a dense, shifting fog and quite wet and cold. It coats the trees along the river with a frost that looks like hoarfrost.
