There’s always something pretty to see out there. It will get nicer in the next week if we get the snow that is forecast. They are forecasting it by the foot in the mountains.
The snow levels depend on only a few degrees of temperature. Last night we got about 4 inches of snow and it’s snowing again tonight. I spent most of the morning with my snow blower and shoveling out a neighbor up the hill, but I love it!
What a wonderful series of images, Terry. Looks like a superb day for photography (and a hike?).
Those icicles are just what I needed (to cool me down).
(BTW I often watch one of my Everest or Alaskan dvds on a hot humid day – the sight of snow makes me feel cool very quickly).
There was just a brief period of clear sky, just enough for a quick trip. More snow is on the way. If photos help, I should be able to keep you cool for months!
Photos definitely help – even more so on your blog as your images fill the width of my screen and I can see the details of the landscape.
(I follow a couple of blogs that have the tiniest of images and even when I click on them, I don’t see that much more.
I’m a visual person.
That looks so beautiful! You’re lucky to have some snow during this time of the year. Around here the temperature went up to 17 degrees yesterday. Only rain so far 😦
I love having four distinct seasons, and grew up loving to see the snow season arrive each year. Not everyone does though. After a very cold winter with lots of snow, many people who moved up here for the beautiful summers put their homes on the market and move further south.
That’s so silly! I think every season has its beauty. I also like to have all of them. Being in the Netherlands now, I rarely see snow, and I miss it a lot. 😦
I spent many years away from here, living in the Arizona desert and really missed the snow. Luckily there though it was only a few hours away from the northern Arizona high country where the snow was always deep.
Love those icicles! Frost is a fantastic sculptor. If you have any of this weather to spare, send it over here! More of the (endless) rain here today! 🙂
We may have before winter is over. I like rain a lot, but this time of year the land really needs heavy snow in the high country and it’s doing fairly well up there already. The ski areas are starting to do well already and the snow pack is building up. Another foot is expected today and tomorrow at pass level and up to 6 inches in the valleys.
I always like combinations of green plant life with snow or ice. Your photos are lovely. And that last one is particularly interesting. The one section looks like a rock that’s been highly polished. I presume that’s a sheet of smooth ice over it. It’s very interesting.
The photo is a little too much of a close-up. The rock is in the middle of the stream, with several inches of water flowing over it. I was struck by the stripes on the rock.
The weather here now is more like it is in spring. One moment it is snowing, the next, the sum is out. Pretty to see though, and quite warm for this time of year. It will be in the single digits again after a few days though.
It sure doesn’t look that way today. Now has moved in with lots of it at the higher altitudes. The snow level at the nearest ski area from me is now 100 inches.
Great photos, Terry. So much beauty even in the cold winter.

And that’s where it belongs – up in the mountains.

Keeps you in good shape as long as you don’t overdo it.

It does that, and it’s a lot easier when the temperatures are cool.

Not a lot of snow depth yet, but winter is happening and it adds a lot of beauty to the landscape.

The nearest ski area (20 miles by air) had 6 inches of new snow yesterday and now has 51 inches at the top of the runs.

Great photos. The landscape in two first photos is such, which I could admire for hours and hours.

I admire that scene often: it is only a couple miles from my house. I also love spending time in the roadless area on the top of the ridge.

So nice to see the sun-lit scene, especially in winter. It makes everything more glorious.

I love what is usually considered “inclement weather” too, but a winter day with some clear skies is always a beautiful gift!
