I love that about a place, how it changes so dramatically with the seasons and the day’s light…and how nice that it’s so close to you, too. It could become a favorite…..
Those colours are glorious! What beautiful photos. The colours have been nice here, but we’re getting some wild weather over the next few days so I fear they’ll be gone soon.
The trees here are confused this year. In a stand of trees, all of the same species, there are some in full color, some already spent and some still completely green. I haven’t figured that out. THe larch are turning fast and I hope I can catch up with them for a few pictures in the next few days, even though a lot of rain is in the forecast.
Maybe someone saw a rainbow over it one day. It would have reflected beautifully if the surface was that smooth. In any case it’s a beautiful spot, with or without the rainbow.
It is still Dog Lake to me. I caught my first fish there when I was 6 years old. Of course it was a huge cat fish and my dad had to get clear back on shore to get it off the hook for me. Besides I got 6 perch that day too. It was a great recreational place. Different clubs had picnics there every year.It was close and very popular.
Clark Fork Idaho…
It’s a lake that has plenty of access, but being situated in a lightly populated area, not too much traffic. A pretty place to visit at any time of the year.
Your photos are glorious. I read a little bit about the lake, and found it really is a favorite with fishermen. Pike and perch are the draws, apparently. I looked at some of your winter photos up there, too. Quite a different scene it will be, in a few months!
Yes, it’s nearly that time of year again, when the lake will freeze for the winter and the ice fishermen will come out. There was snow today about a hundred miles to the south of us on the passes, so the time is coming. Last winter I wasn’t able to get outside, but now I’m looking forward to visiting there when the snow is deep. A couple of years ago I walked on snowshoes to the waterfall that is on the west side of the lake and enjoyed it very much. Hoping for deep snow again this year!
The traffic is lower there partly because it is on the reservation where a reservation permit is required for fishing or recreation. It gets fishermen summer and winter but not to any great extent.
The photo was taken about 3 weeks ago. Now there is a light coating of snow on the shoreline and ice beginning to form on the lake. I need to go back for another visit.
I could spend like the rest of my life right there and it wouldn’t bother me for a moment…. Such a beautiful place.

It’s pretty, all right. Luckily it is only about a dozen miles away and its mood changes with the seasons and the time of day.

I have dozens of photos of this lake, but with the light just right, there’s always room for a couple more!

Pretty spot. It looks very calm right now, but I imagine it has its stormy moments.

It does, especially in winter when it gets some good snow. It is quite sheltered though from the bad winds.

Hi Montucky, Who can say, but sometimes for tourism’s sake, things get renamed. Lovely photos! Have an especially nice day today!

I suppose you’re right, but we old timers still much prefer the original name.

I don’t know what they were thinking, but it is really pretty up there. Good country for moose too.

Hi Frances! I fished the lake when I was a kid too. It still gets fishermen in the summer and a lot of ice fishing in winter.
