On a walk this morning the sun came out very briefly and I saw this as a tiny dot of red on a very brushy hillside. It is so very simple, yet when you think about it, it is an example of a lot that goes on in our natural world.
Yes, the plants and animals too. Winter can be very harsh and yet they can handle it. I love being out in all kinds of weather and I’m well equipped for it. It’s so wonderful to see and feel the seasons at work!
A few years ago, one of my Montana friends got a photo of lilacs covered with this sort of snow. There’s something about the combination of the crystals and color that’s just so appealing. This is a wonderful capture.
I have some photos taken about this time of year several year ago of some pansies decorated with snow. The year-to-year variations are interesting. I love when the snow contrasts with something of nice color.
Thank You liking my newest post. I have no explanation to it why nobody could leave comment. It is a mystery to me.
I am still working by my Mobile broadband modem for my connection. I have been promised to get operational connection to our new home in December on Friday the 14th, 2012. Let’s hope that they keep their promise. Happily I made many posts ready for publication, because I expected something like this problem. My Internet connection is giving me more gray hair, gray although they are white grey already.
I was surprised when I saw the little notice at the bottom of your post that read “Comments Closed”. Internet connections can be a cause of consternation. I lost mine a few nights ago for no special reason. Our internet provider does have good technical support and we got it fixed fairly quickly although I never did learn the exact cause of the problem.
Most of the rose leaves have fallen and these few that remained were especially colorful. Just a few in a very large area of wild roses. It was as though they were left for decoration.
How fortunate you were to see the color and the snow together in one place. In contrast to that reality, the afternoon temperature in Austin yesterday was 75°.
That’s a clever sort of arithmetic you’ve figured out there. Now just think about those winter days when your temperature gets down to zero or below: no number of days like that could ever catch you up.
Oh my gosh! Beautiful!

Probably leaves of a Wood’s Rose, a little unusual that they are still on the stem.

I saw your area on the national radar yesterday (or the day before), so I was kind of expecting some snow pictures here. You did not disappoint!

We got a little new snow at valley level, but a lot up higher. I haven’t had a chance to go up there again yet.

Amazing what’s outdoors on a cold morning! I would have thought that all of those leaves would have fallen off by now.

How some plants even survive a winter is amazing. You’re brave too, to be out there in the cold with your camera.

The leaves were up a very brushy hillside and I couldn’t get close. The photo was taken using a 70-300mm lens at about 240mm. I love that lens!

Rose leaves can go through some amazing color changes. I have two in my yard that are now deep purple, but I like your red ones more.
