I had to look up apogee and found out that it’s the time when the sun is farthest from the earth. In our western area it is on July 3 this year. Beautiful photo. I suppose this “sunset” apogee shows the point where the sun is at its farthest possible point before disappearing beyond the horizon. Either way, I’ve learned something while enjoying your photo.
I have taken pictures of sunsets from there before, but not when so much smoke was in the air. They were a true orange, where this one leaned more toward red.
Yes, the smoke provides the red and purple cast to the sunsets. We haven’t had clouds until today, so the sunsets don’t fill the sky, but I think that’s coming. We even had about 20 minutes of rain this evening, the first in about 43 days.
Beautiful! Made me wonder if you were planning to photograph the eclipse and what percentage of total you will be at. I would think fairly high. We will be at 63% here.
I haven’t seen a percentage. I don’t plan to photograph it. I don’t do those photos well. I’m just dying to have a visit from the Northern Lights though.
That’s a wonderful place to view sunsets if I can get there at the right time. It’s worth taking a chance for it. Kind of a rough road to get there, but that’s what a Jeep is for.
There’s a rumor going around in meteorologist circles that the smoke will be going away. Unfortunately, it will be replaced by thunder storms and lightning.
I think the intensity of the color was because the top of the mountain I was on and the mountains that the sun was disappearing behind were right near the top level of the smoke from the fires.
Hi Montucky, Wow! What a glorious photograph! One for your album of “Keepers”. I would think you may want to print and frame this one. Have a great day today!

Always nice when the camera co-operates with low-light photo opportunities.

I always enjoy a sunset. Viewing one from a mountain top, adds another dimension.

If a red sky at night truly is a sailor’s delight, there had to be some very happy sailors around!

Not many sailors here, except retired ones, and there are a lot of them around. They probably enjoyed it!

Very nice and dramatic! Love looking at sunsets! Or sunrises if I can get up!

I usually see both, but there have not been any colorful sunrises yet. Maybe now there will be because some clouds are beginning to show up now.

In contrast to the harsh scenes of fire and smoke during the day, this is a soft touch from Nature as night settles in.
