    • I just love the color. It’s quite small though (about a quarter of an inch across) and you can’t really see the detail without magnification.

  3. Nature’s designs are amazing. This is more than just a pink flower. The inner petal pattern makes it look like a double set of petals. The pale spots looked like water droplets at first but they’re too regular for that. And what a hot pink colour. The bees will come to that.

    • I wish they were larger too. Even as small as they are though they catch you attention right away, and this time of year there are lots of them around.

  6. I’ve always known dianthus as a garden flower. I was surprised to see that it’s quite capable of living in the wild, without being pampered. It is a pretty thing. It reminds me of our mountain pinks, which are quite small, too. They’re not quite so fancy, though.

    • I was surprised when I learned that they were originally garden flowers that “escaped” because I see them in even remote locations and assumed they were wild. They must have an amazing ability to propagate.

    • It is a stand-out, but it’s also so small it’s usually ignored.

    • It sure deserves the name “pink” doesn’t it! I saw them for years bit largely ignored them until I got a camera that could do close-ups. Then the flower became a real star!

    • I hope we will always take the time to see the details. Perhaps that’s a lesson from the wildflowers.
