Yesterday on another attempt to reach the trail head to the Big Hole Lookout on the quad I turned around at about 4800 feet because of some very deep and melting snow on the road and also because high winds coming across the ridge tops were threatening to bring trees down over the road. The views were very nice though .

On partly cloudy days, views from up high are like slideshows: the scenes keep changing.

I especially like the patch of sunlight sliding across the mountain in the first photo. Water’s good, but I think mountains may be best for showing the movement of clouds. Anyone who says, “Oh, the mountains never change” might consider a second look!

Yes mountain views change constantly. Most of the day hikes that I go on consist of 4 to 6 miles up to a mountain top and then back. The scenes are completely different on both the ascent and the descent so it’s enjoyable to use the trail both ways.

Beautiful views. It looks like there’s still plenty of snow up high.
I don’t blame you for not wanting to deal with falling trees. A young fireman died here yesterday when a tree fell on the truck he was driving. It’s been very windy for most of March.

That’s very sad about the fireman and I feel for his loved ones. That job is full of hazards and I admire and appreciate those who pursue it!
Yes, mountain peaks in this region, like that one, still have about 10 feet of snow.

Stunning. A part of the world I’ve never seen and would really like to visit someday. But I doubt my southern bones could take it this time of year. Deep snow and high winds? I’d have to wait till summer.

When it’s possible to get views from high on a mountain one can see things in a vastly different way than from a highway in a valley. Luckily, many of here those views are available from some back roads and most high trails.
