The light was good on the Graves Creek Road the other day. This road connects from the Blue Slide Road west of the town of Thompson Falls Montana to Vermilion Pass and the trail head to Mount Headley.
I wouldn’t say the light was good. I’d say the light was terrific. My gosh, what a fall you’re having. I really do enjoy the mix of green and yellow, wtih the orange tinges. It’s so hard to imagine that we’re nearly to the end of October, but you’re helping me to keep up with the time!
It sure doesn’t seem like it should be the end of October yet. It’s pretty now, but I’m really not looking forward to winter this year.
I’m hoping for more good color on a trek tomorrow into the Bitterroot mountains.

Have fun! I’ll think of you while I’m sweating away in the humidity!

It will be in the mid 30’s here tonight and no warmer than 60 tomorrow in the valley: up where I’ll be at 7600 feet, probably in the low 40’s.

Yes, the Larch at that elevation were in prime color. The road and trail was covered in places with Larch needles, a golden carpet.

The larches were really glowing in that light and it must have been a magical walk down that road. Beautiful!

The light is superb. It really shows up the contrasting shadows and fall colour well.
Enjoy your hike…..

Sometimes I think I should just go out and walk around, waiting for the light to be just right.

I love that road. It is only ten miles long and goes from 2400 feet to 6000 feet and takes me to some of the most beautiful country around!

Wow, that really lifts the spirits. Such beautiful glowing colours! We’ve had strong winds here for two days now and most of the leaves are off.

It’s a little sad when the leaves are gone. The Larch are shedding rapidly now but they are still prime in some areas.

These were shot after hiking the trail. Perhaps it was Nature’s way of saying “thanks for visiting”.
