I certainly will not be hiking out in that direction. I’ve always liked the contrast of yellow grass and white snow.

This little cove is tucked away at the end of our local shooting range. To my knowledge, no one has ever used the archery range, even in summer. Most folks set up an archery range at their home as I do. The rifle range part gets a lot of use as does the pistol part and there is also a very active trap club located there.

Archers have to get a lot closer than gun hunters. You’d be safe as long as you don’t wear any antler hats.

In this part of the country, antler hats would not be a good idea, although the bow hunters are very good hunters around here.

…and in some parts of the country, white knit hats or mittens can get you killed if a “hunter” mistakes them for a white-tail deers flashing tail!
Montucky, do you wear blaze orange when you hike in the fall?

I spent two days working on snow clearing issues and did get very tired. Now I’m ready for more and looking forward to it. Yes, there are deer tracks everywhere and I noticed a lot of coyote tracks there as well. The real pests this year are the turkeys: there are literally hundreds of them here now after the mild winter a year ago and a good summer.

We had a very wet spring last year and a great summer for the plants. Lots of tall grass still around, pretty good browse for the deer.

There are deer trails everywhere after a new snow. I enjoy seeing the stories written in the snow and finding out who all of the overnight visitors were.

I’ve always known this line – “I shot an arrow in the air, it came to ground, I know not where…” What I didn’t know is that the line is from Longfellow! Here’s the stanza – such a nice accompaniment to your photo!
“I shot an arrow into the air, It fell to earth, I knew not where; For so swiftly it flew, the sight Could not follow it in its flight. I breathed a song into the air, It fell to earth, I knew not where; For, who has sight so keen and strong That it can follow the flight of song? Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroken; And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.”

I think of that line sometimes and always have to chuckle because it reminds me of the time, many years ago, when I bought a new bow. There was a farmer’s field just behind our house that was a half mile wide with a road on the other side. I shot an arrow in that direction to see how far it would go, then became concerned that it might reach the road: it made it half way.

Beautiful picture. I love the sign. Those scare me when I’m out hiking in a brown jacket. I wear an orange cap to try to deflect arrows. It works great so far.

Great idea for Your post. I talk a little bit of out-of-context. I checked with interest what kind of rules here for hunting with a crossbow. “Law jungle” was very complicated and still, I am not sure, if I say that game hunting cannot be made here, if the tensioning force of a crossbow is less180 Newton (180 N).
Thank You for Your post which made me to think arches and hunting.

Here we have special seasons for hunting with bow and arrow, usually preceding the rifle season. Bow and arrow is also permitted during the general rifle season and crossbows may also be used then.

Yes, impossible. When I shoot my bow though I do it at home though anyway and use a target that traps the arrows very well.

I have enjoyed shooting a bow for many years and hunted with one in Arizona, particularly for Javelina. I hate to admit it, but my wife, who doesn’t hunt, was a better a]shot with a bow than I was.
