More May flowers

These are the rest of the wildflowers that I was able to photograph during May. Late rains have slowed down the bloom, but it looks like June will be a good month for flowers.

Meadowrue ~ Thalictrum occidentale

Field Pussytoes

Field Pussytoes ~ Antennaria neglecta

Bog Saxifrage

Bog Saxifrage ~ Micranthes oregana

This is a rather unusual member of the saxifrage family, but rather interesting because of the colors.

It’s a little unusual to see these in multiples.

The Bitterroot is the state flower of Montana. It was cherished by the indigenous people for its roots.

Wildflowers of summer (11)

As summer draws to a close, blooms of the wildflowers have almost completed; I have only a few more photos of this year’s blooms left to post.

For the next couple of weeks my posting will likely be sporadic and/or brief. Our daughter will be here for a visit and we have a lot of plans, many of which involve trekking into the beautiful back country of Montana. I’m sure there will be many photos to be posted later as a result of those trips, perhaps including some new blooms.

Pearly & Paints

Yesterday I found these still blooming in the high country about 5 miles southwest of Big Hole lookout, compressing their lives into the short summer season up there.

The Paints

When the flower Indian Paintbrush is mentioned, the first image that comes to mind is of the red one.

Last year I also found a very pretty yellow one,

Yellow Indian PaintbrushAlpine paintbrush, Castilleja rhexiflolia

but while returning from the trip to Mt Headley I was surprised to see some growing on a hillside above the road that were a quite distinct orange which I believe are also Castilleja miniata.

More than one kind of paint

On May seventeenth these were blooming in the high desert between Page Arizona and Kanab Utah.
