I couldn’t resist posting more Whitetail photos. These are of a young doe and her last summer’s fawn who stopped by to visit this morning.

I hope the spring weather comes to your area soon so these guys can have an easier life. They’re so sweet to see and I hope life isn’t too hard for them. They’ve probably figured out how to survive comfortably enough out where you are, but in our case, so many deer are now “town deer” and life is much harder for them. These deer look great in your photo. The little guy is a real cutie.

The deer around here have had an easy winter this year and they are all looking good. The periods of deep cold have been fairly brief and the snow has not been deep at the lower elevations.

I grew up with Whitetails and also Mule Deer and would never want to not have them around. I’m happy to say that they are now as plentiful as they ever have been, at least in this area.

To me, it looks from these pictures as if you White Tailed Deer have a thicker winter fur than ours.

These guys do grow a beautiful winter coat, and this winter has been mild and very easy on the wildlife so they have stayed in great condition.

That fawn elicited an out-loud “Ohhhhhh” from me! They are beautiful, and they sure do look a little shaggier than ours. It makes sense; your world demands different “clothes.” People around here were noticing how fat and furry our squirrels had been getting over the past couple of months. By the time the cold and snow arrived, it made sense.

The winter coats of the wildlife are beautiful and efficient. The long hairs in a deer’s winter coat are hollow which keeps them warm even in very cold weather. They are well equipped.

The hollow hairs also make them more buoyant in the water too and they are quite good swimmers.

These little whitetail fawns are just so cute. How could anyone resist posting more photos? How lucky you are to see them up close in their natural environment.

I have been close to the resident wildlife nearly all of my life and in that I consider myself blessed. They are never tiresome, indeed my love for them continues to grow.

Whitetails are so lovely and your photos prove it. That’s why I can’t get too mad at them for eating all the leaves off our azalea bushes this winter. We had snow on the ground for quite a long time and they needed to find a free lunch.

They are of the opinion that whatever we plant, we plant for them. I’ve learned to consider that when I choose to plant something.

This is actually the first time in 20 years that they have come so close to our house. They generally travel through our yard (2.25 acres) but shy away from our house.

For the last couple of years I have gotten to be very close to many of the deer who are common residents of one area. It has been (and is) a wonderful experience.

This is a species Texas shares with Montana. In fact we sometimes find these deer on our front lawn.

I sometimes run into deer at a nearby nature park, here in central Ohio. One morning a couple of summers ago, I ran into a doe with two fawns. The fawns sought a safe place in the trees, but the doe and I shared several precious seconds checking each other out.

I used to see deer all of the time when I lived in Virginia. Now here in Texas, I am seeing lizards everywhere. Not quite the same. 😉

Not quite. Lizards don’t eat everything in the yard. I became very fond of lizards in the years when I lived in Arizona, but as close as we come here is a few skinks and they are very shy and reclusive.

Hi Montucky, My hubby and I are now living in the upper AZ desert which is very different from TN and FL! Have seen a Road Runner in my neighbor’s large yard; a Gilded Flicker; a AZ Woodpecker; Gambel Quail, and many other birds. Feeding a flock of Goldfinches, Housefinches, Long-tailed Grackels, and several Mourning Doves in my yard among three feeders. Also occasionally have a hummingbird here at that feeder. Growing a vegetable garden with mixed success. Very hot! Well, that is the catch-up. Hope you are enjoying your stunning mountain scenery. Love your photographs!

Good to hear from you! I hope you enjoy Arizona. I lived there for over 20 years in the Phoenix area, but it got too big for me. The areas in the higher desert I think would be miuch better. It’s a beautiful state!
