Montana Outdoors 
I heard about your snow on radio today, and thought we might catch a glimpse of it here. I hardly can believe the time’s passed so quickly. It seems like only yesterday we were waiting for the first buttercups. Around and around the seasons go — we’d best hang on tight.

Yes, it seemed that summer was very fleeting this year, and I had little time to enjoy it. Now the seasons will change quickly before next spring arrives.

Just saw a report that Montana could receive up to three feet. Early is bad enough with it being a blizzard. We in New England complain about the weather but you guys get the big snows.

Snow isn’t unusual for this time of year, but the volume in this storm is much more than usual. The valley here hasn’t had any snow yet but there is a lot already on the higher elevations, especially along the Divide. There are high winds with this one too, and a lot of trees have blown down over the roads in some areas. It is forecast to be over by Tuesday when the sky should be clear and the temps in the 50’s. I is beautiful, and I just love it!

I haven’t heard but Lookout Pass was supposed to get about 10 inches. My guess is that there is already over two feet near the top of that mountain. (Baldy Mountain).

It is already starting to warm up a bit and dry out. Last night was pretty stormy and snowy and I was out most of the night on a fire so I didn’t enjoy it as much as I normally would.

Thank you Jessica! I will try to become more active going into fall and winter. This brief preview of winter will soon be over and hopefully it will be followed by at least several weeks of pleasant fall weather.

Wow! Reading the other commenters and your reply, seems you got a real heavy blanket of unseasonal snow drop. Good shot of Baldy mountain showing the snow. Gosh, it must be cold already in your part of Montana.
Our weather DownUnder is pretty mixed, but the north-eastern areas have had some bad bushfires already and we’ve just started Spring.

The last couple of days was a sudden drastic change from the hot summer but there will now be a respite from it for awhile. At about 4 AM this morning there was about three inches of snow on my Jeep.

Similar situation here in south western Alberta – snow in the Rockies but moving onto the prairies tonight and tomorrow. 30 to 60 cm of snow possible in high elevations near the Montana border. 10 to 20 cm in our area.
Maybe hubby will get to try out the snow plowing ability of the new tractor earlier than he planned! Or not – back to sun and warmer weather by mid-next week. Snow will melt quickly.

I imagine that our climate is often quite similar to yours. Just three days ago though I serviced my snow blower but there was not enough at this elevation to put it to use yet. The fire in the stove does feel good tonight!

Storm is over – we got 10 inches of wet snow. Nothing compared to what SW Alberta and parts of Montana got!

Beautiful photo, Montucky! The snow is returning to the higher elevations here, too. We may get frost tonight at 800 feet. We are in the Cascade foothills.

Thanks Lavina! Until the other night we hadn’t even had a frost, then suddenly we have a blizzard. My house is at an elevation of about 2400 feet and the snow we had last night is already all gone. A friend who lives about 8 miles away at an elevation of 3100 feet still has over three inches on the ground.

Autumn didn’t last too long here. No snow yet, but a number of subfreezing mornings. I am wondering what sort of winter is in store for us in my area in western Oregon.

It seems strange to see that we are in opposite seasons. Personally, although I greatly enjoy having four distinct seasons, I enjoy the anticipation of Spring more than the anticipation of winter.

Me too! Winter has its benefits I suppose, but having so few hours of daylight compared to high summer is the most challenging for me.

Thanks! Yes it’s early, because of the amount of snow that we received. Most of the heavy snow was well to the east of here but we did get some high winds along with ours. The valley snow here has already all melted.

We escaped nearly all of it. The worst of the storm was to the north and east of here. The high peaks around here are sure white though.

I read that Montana got snow this week and I couldn’t believe it! We had a rush of cold days down in Calif. at the same time, but of course nothing like your snowfall. Beautiful photo of Baldy Mtn, montucky.

The early snow was not all that unusual, but the amount of it was. Locally only the high peaks received much snow, but north and east along the Divide there were huge amounts at one time. The mountain and others along the valley were really pretty, and still have a heavy snow cover.

Hello Terry.
Well, gorgeous photo and it is the evidence that winter is coming. Here in my country we have had very cold and rainy. In the north in my country there have been first snow falls, but snow has melted during the day. In Helsinki the temperature has been during the night about the temperature has been close to the freezing point.

It’s interesting that we are having similar weather patterns this year. We had a light snow last night and tonight’s forecast calls for temperatures well below freezing, around 19F.
