These were taken from a fire lookout location where is truly a 360 degree view and about a hundred mile visibility.

We have been fortunate this summer to have skies clear of wildfire smoke. The air has been very pure and it’s good to see that blue!

Great to hear news from you! Do you have problems with fires? Is the temperature low up there? Love the view from Eddy Peak!!

Thanks! So far this summer we have had only a few small fires close to here and that is unusual. We have been able to contain and control those quickly.
The temperatures at the peak elevations are usually about 20 degrees (F) cooler than in the valleys. They were in the 70’s (F) that day.

We have been fortunate this year to have very little smoke in the air, some periods of rain, and lots of clear sky. It’s nice to see from the mountain tops/

I like the contrast between the cirrus clouds and the rocks in the first, but the second has that river, picking up the blue from the sky. Both are gorgeous — how lucky you are to be able to enjoy such sights!

I remember my father saying many times that he could never leave these mountains. It’s easy to understand why. We were fortunate to live here and blessed with good health so that we could visit these places.

These photos were taken along the Clark Fork River valley, where the river elevation is about 2400 feet and the mountains on either side are about 7000 feet. that provides a chance for some great views.

The grasses on the valley floor are all brown here now too, but it is cooler and wetter at the high elevations so it stays green.

This was a short climb from the end of the road to the lookout, but it’s still a very remote area and a pretty place to visit.

That’s the Clark Fork of the Columbia. It’s pretty good sized.

There must be several peaks called Eddy, although I don’t know of another one in this region. This one is only 6957 feet though. Still, it has nice views in every direction.

This is one of the rare peaks in this area that has a road nearly to the top and an actively manned fire lookout. There is also a nice trail along the ridge that it’s on.

All of the high peaks in this region have been used for fire lookouts because of the areas that can bee seen from them. Most are still accessed by trails, but this one is easy to get to.

This has been a wonderful year so far with very few fires locally and no large ones. There is still another month or so for fire season though.

As I opened this and cursored down, I gasped. If you hiked to this spot, it’s possible there wouldn’t be any breath left for this breath-taking view. But oh my goodness, what an incredible, heavenly view and a gorgeous day. I hope the fire lookouts remain fire-free, montucky.

x This lookout is one if only a few left to which you can drive. There’s still a half mile hike to the tower but the whole trip is well worth it in any kind of weather!
