Another superb shot. These owls are the cutest ones I’ve ever seen (online, as I’ve never seen one in real life). 🙂

WOW, awesome! I love those gorgeous, intense eyes! I was trying to make out what is reflecting in its eyes, maybe a silhouette of you off to the right?

I can’t stop looking at him. How close to him were you? You surely must have been using a long lens — at least, that’s what I imagine. If you weren’t, that was one accomodating owl. That’s the sort of photo that can keep me happy for days and days. If I were you, I’d keep going back to look at it myself, just to assure myself that I actually managed to capture that face.

I think that will always be at the top of my favorite photos. He let me get very close. The photo was taken at a distance of about 4 feet. What a privilege it was!

Hello, I just stopped by to see if you have posted. Seems you and I are not attending our blogs like we use to. I hope you are well and enjoying summer.
All my cameras have problems. I need a new and am leaning towards a point and shoot type. Just not wanting to lug my bigger cameras and lens around.
Can you tell me what you use and if you are happy with it? Pretty please 😉

Hi Tammie,
I keep meaning to pay more attention to my blog but haven’t gotten around to it. I hope it’s just a phase though because I don’t intend to stop it just yet.
The camera that I’m using is a Nikon D7100 and I like it but it is big and heavy and I do get tired of carrying several lenses around. The whole thing is heavy for hiking and even on back country trips with the Jeep it’s hard to keep the lenses clean and protected. I mainly get out to see and enjoy the back country and trails and photography is secondary.
I have a Nikon 1 J5 and for the first year I loved it, It’s small and fully functional and takes excellent pictures, but then I had to have a repair made on the camera and shortly after I got it back two of the three lenses I had for it failed. Nikon no longer supports it and that whole episode made me lose confidence with Nikon. I will probably not buy that brand again. Sorry I can’t be more helpful!

Thank you for getting back to me. I find myself using a point and shoot mostly these days, but it just died. I also am not enjoying carrying all the equipment and weight around. I will continue my search, it is hard going without a camera, so I must choose soon. Every day there are wonderful things to photograph right on my property. Lovely summer to you!

How exciting! I’ve never seen one of those owls.
Owls are just about my favorite birds! We have Great Horned Owls at both our homes. They nest in our Alberta yard. They rest in our Arizona yard.

Wow! What a stunning close-up! How lucky for you, montucky…what a thrill. I just looked up on allaboutbirds.com that this owl is year-round in northwest Montana. They are also year-round in northern Calif. but I have never had the pleasure of this beauty. I feel lucky to have had such a close look here, thanks so much.
