Very pleasant encounter

This little guy paid a visit here this afternoon, which was very surprising because they are highly nocturnal and therefore seldom seen. In fact, this is the only one that I have ever seen. What a thrill to see him right up close!

    • I listened to a recording of a Saw-whet on the Cornell website, but don’t recall ever hearing it before.

  6. So beautiful. We had an owl in our backyard tree a couple of years ago. I felt so lucky…Im always checking in case another one drops by. Loved seeing your photos.

  8. What superb photos. I can well imagine the thrill at seeing this owl up close. Your photos are so good, I feel like I can reach out and touch him.

    (if it had been me, I would have been trembling with excitement and probably wobbled and spoilt the shots).

  10. What a beautiful creature. I’ve never had such a wonderful, close view of an owl. I can imagine what a thrill it was — and how kind of him to allow for a photographic session!

    • It was a highly unusual encounter, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! It made me very glad for a good camera.

    • The little guy is certainly a charmer. I have no idea what he was doing out in the daytime or why he was completely unafraid of me, but I’m happy that he came to visit!

  28. You are lucky one, when seeing it. When being a school boy, I saw a Snowy owl. Our teacher brought it to the class room. 🙂
