Thanks. We have had few colorful sunsets this summer because there just haven’t been many clouds. This one was of a very brief duration, but my timing was good to get to see it.
Our sunsets (if we ever get any clouds) will be more colorful now that fires season has begun. We now have smoke in the air from a fairly large fire in Washington State, but I’m sure (sadly) that there will be more.
Hi Terry, oh no, you are having weather like we had. Now it’s been raining for a few days thank goodness, we really needed it. Prayers for rain your way.
I bet that rain is wonderful this time of year. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms here for the next few days. We sure don’t need the lightning though!
It seems there is a heat wave all over the west. No rain in sight here for quite some time. I would welcome a good downpour of rain once in a while. That’s how summers used to be here. Over the years, things are changing to more extreme weather in every season.
This is pretty normal for late summer here, but the fire season has come about 2 weeks later than usual. There was lots of snow last winter but that doesn’t help now, in fact the late snow melt helped the grasses to grow extra tall this year and that doesn’t help the fire situation at all.
I sure hope not. I saw smoke from a small fire today on the Reservation. We called it in and there was already a tribal engine and crew there with a spotter plane in the air and a helicopter called into service. I think they caught it before it got into the trees.
They have been rare here lately, and clear weather is in the forecast until Thursday night when there is a slight chance of thunderstorms which is not what we need either.
I very much like the way you composed this one, with the band of color and the resulting silhouettes cutting through the middle of the image. Now that our haze is gone, we’ll be a little short on striking sunsets until the weather shifts and the clouds come back. As you said, they’re one of the essential ingredients for fine sunset (or sunrise) photos!
There was another one last night with more color, but I was coming back from a meeting when I saw it and by the time I got home it was over. It’s nice to have a few clouds again!
Simply beautiful….

Very hot and very dry. Fire danger condition is now at “Very High”. At least the nights are still cool.

I do too. I especially love them when I can see them from a mountain top, maybe once a year.

What a beautiful sight.
(hope the forest fires aren’t too bad this season).

So far, so good on the fires. We are getting ready now with wildfire training refresher sessions and filling emergency reservoirs.

Fire season will give you even more colourful skies, but even without the fires, Montana has spectacular sunrises/sunsets.

We do, but there has been an absence if clouds for the past several weeks. Maybe we’ll get some moisture from the monsoons down south.

I always sleep a little better after I’ve seen a pretty sunset. Catching them with the camera is a bonus.

They do, but sometimes they obscure a shot. I love when I can get a picture of a sunset from a mountain top.

It was an unusual sunset, and the colors were very brief. A few minutes later not only the colors were gone, but every trace of clouds as well.
