Morning on Eddy peak

Morning on Eddy Peak

The photo I posted yesterday reminded me of another morning in 2010 at the top of Eddy Peak located in the Coeur d’Alene mountains overlooking the Clark Fork River valley.

West from Baldy

West from Baldy

While contemplating a hike next week I was looking over some photos taken there a number of years ago and noticed this one taken on October 9, 2013 that I had never published. A storm was just sweeping in from the south but a window remained looking out over the clouds that filled the valley toward the west.

Bear Grass & Buster

Bear grass ~ xerophyllum tenax

Bear-grass is one of the largest of the wildflowers in this region and when they are in full bloom they create quite a scene, covering clearings in the forest at elevations between about 5,000 feet to 6,000 feet.

Heart-leaf Arnica

Heart-leaf Arnica ~ arnica cordifolia

Bear-grass is now blooming at the higher elevations, and it is a good year for it: thousands of flowers are covering the openings in the forest for miles. I was getting a few pictures of the Bear-grass today when this little Arnica flower just seemed to steal the show.
