With overcast skies today and a threat of rain, I was going to devote the day to doing things around the house, but in early afternoon I couldn’t keep from taking a little outing. It was a nice surprise that when I visited this small mountain lake up in the Cabinet Mountains there was a short break in the clouds, just long enough to take a few pictures.

Definitely! I love being outdoors any time of the year, but in summer I can’t stay away from the high country and the forests. The chores around the house can wait for cloudy days.

Indeed! For me there is no greater enjoyment than to be out in the natural world. I gives a perspective to life that so many people in today’s world aren’t able to have.

Just about all of the lakes here that are at valley levels are also surrounded by houses, but those high in the forest are not. Those are not accessible in winter anyway.

Those spontaneous trips sometimes turn out to be the best. There’s rarely a time I go out that I don’t have the experience of suddenly feeling “stop here” or “go there.” I wouldn’t push it, and say that the world is beckoning me to see something special, but on the other hand — if we really listen, maybe there’s more to that than people think.

There’s definitely something about those hunches or sudden feelings. I know exactly what you mean. Today in fact I spent some time following one of those urges. It took me several places but finally to a river scene where the light happened to be just right.

What a lovely summery scene. I can see why it was so photo-worthy. It’s especially uplifting as we’ve had a very grey sombre day where I live.

Frequently in summer we have partly sunny days. They can be really pretty, especially exsctly where you are when the sky clears a little.

That day was very cloudy until I got to the lake and the sky cleared for less than an hour while I was there. Couldn’t have planned it any better!

That’s a pretty area this time of year, just below a tall peak. I hiked to the top of that peak today and up there it was lightly snowing and windy and very cold!
