The Buttercups that began to bloom just one month ago met sub-zero temperatures and heavy snowfall the very next day. Yesterday they began to bloom again.

I am still deep in snow, but hopefully some time in April I will start seeing some grass.Cheers

We are seeing some green now at the level of the valley floor, but the snow is still very deep higher in elevation.

This one flourishes only during the cold weather at the start of spring. By mid summer the blossoms are gone and the leaves will have withered and all signs of the plant will have disappeared.

I only recently –well, maybe last year — learned of “spring ephemerals.” I love that name, and I love those flowers. Like the buttercups, the anemones and others do begin to fade fairly quickly. Now you see them, now you don’t! But their replacements will be equally lovely.

This is the first of many that do that. Some have very short bloom periods. It’s nice to have the rotation of blooms as the year progresses!

The wildflowers will take off in April. On April 18 I have my annual date with the Trillium bloom up Munson Creek!

These bright little flowers do “build me up”. It’s amazing what the sight of a small bright flower will do to your spirits this time of year!
