Isn’t it nice when the light is just right! I almost missed this scene because it came together behind me. Luckily I turned around at just the right time!

It sure is! Having this much just before winter is excellent for the trees. They really needed the water and getting a good drink just before the long winter drought is perfect.

Your photo’s a perfect example of why it’s important to look down as well as up, and behind as well as forward. It’s just beautiful — and I’d think rather rare to see a rainbow like this at eye level. Everyone gets to see sprinkler rainbows and such, but this is a different critter. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a rainbowl against hills and trees!

Yes it is unusual, but who knows what happens in some of these canyons when there is no one there to see. There are always surprises in nature and a few seconds more or less and I would have missed this scene.

I don’t recall seeing anything quite like this rainbow. Hiking in high mountain areas has let me see a lot of things from above but I can’t remember a rainbow before.

This special photo got me thinking about life without cameras. How fortunate we are to have a way to permanently capture scenes like this that delight us and fill us with joy. Thanks for “looking” for the rest of us. 🙂

I love doing outdoor work in light rain. There’s something about it that makes me feel both isolated and part of the bigger picture. I’m especially happy if it involves adding to or creating a new brush pile. It’s work I hated as a kid but is now my favorite outdoor work. Walks are good, too. 🙂

How is your daughter? Not sure where in Sonoma County she lives. We live on the West side of Santa Rosa so relatively safe. Air bad. 2 days without power. Went to ocean today to get clean air. We’re packed to evacuate. Probably head to ocean again tomorrow. …Lynn

Hi Lynn. I’m glad to see that you are relatively safe. My daughter is also. She lives in the area of College Ave and 101 though so she came close.It’s a good idea to head for the ocean to get out of the smoke and the sirens and the sight of all the burned places.
I’ve been almost glued to the Press Democrat’s live updates along with Google maps, and so have been able to follow just about everything.I’ve never seen anything like that. By the way, a lot of the planes dropping water and slurry are Montana planes doing everything they can.

Glad she’s okay.
Without power I was only able to see tiny phone pictures. Seeing tv pictures is distressing. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able again to drive through Sonoma Valley.

I’ve seen a lot of photos on the news websites, and the scenes are almost beyond belief. We have our share of big fires here but they seldom involve any of the towns. That is a completely different dimension!
