When I was taking a picture of Buster “cooling his heels” in the stream
I noticed an unusual scene:

Montana Outdoors 
Even the water skippers want their veggies on a hot day. Buster reminds me of Ruby – only getting his feet wet.

Buster got pretty wet and enjoyed it, then drank and seemed to want to just stand there and cool his feet. Me too!

Maybe the water skipper was ‘having a cool wash’ on the daisy’s water droplets OR maybe its got heatstroke and waiting for the cool of night to revive it? 🙂

I think the skippers have the best possible chance of staying cool on a stream like that. They must have great summers there with plenty of shade and cold water.

I’ve never seen a water skipper out of the water. They’re the coolest bugs — but yours is especially cool, in every sense of the word. Buster makes me smile every time I see him. It cracks me up that his tongue is the same color as his tags in this photo.

That skipper was like a boat that was pulled up on the beach. I don’t know how it came about, but that daisy was growing right in the water like a water lily.
Buster has turned out to be a marvelous dog and has earned my respect in so many ways. We are a partnership.

Those are really cool spiders! Thanks for the link! I think this one is a Water Strider, AKA water skipper, in the family “Gerridae”.

Thanks for the note about the Gerridae, Terry — our water striders are fun to watch skating across the surface. (No ice required.) I was surprised to read that they can’t detect motion above or below the surface, a good reason to keep moving! As for leg count, Gerridae have 6 legs (they’re insects) but the first pair are quite short with claws to puncture prey (ouch). Spiders have 8. 🙂

I don’t think I’ve ever seen one on a daisy or any other plant. Buster looks like a happy dog!
