The Spring Creek Trail welcomes a hiker into a rather crowded pine and fir forest, then enters a cedar canyon through which the creek cascades. Following are a few photos of both.

Montana Outdoors 
Thanks for the pictures. I do look at all of them but I enjoy the pictures of the trails and forest the most. My house is lonely over there. I wish I could live there half of the time at least. I should be able to go fishing in September. We just finished a tour of Italy and Greece so I need to save up some more vacation. I hope your knees are working well and ready for the Spring and Summer.

Well, it’s finally Spring (with a few winter days thrown in every once in awhile), so the weather should be good now through October. Hoping as always for a gently fire season. Hope you can ake it some time during the good weather!

What a wonderfully refreshing-looking place to hike. Ideal for hot summer days to come.
Looks like a great little stretch of creek for photography too. Really conveys the atmosphere for walking in the area.
(The U.S. HGTV ‘house hunting’ show on tv last night showed a couple looking for a house, with acreage, in Montana. Forgotten which area of Montana they were searching, but the scenery reminded me of some of your images of the river and mountains around your home).

This is one of my favorite places on those hot summer days, partly because it’s so close to my house. The canyon is always cool if not cold and the water is always very cold. The trail is steep and rough though but it’s all pretty and there are all kind of wildlife there.

Each year I do spend a lot of time on one end or other of that trail. The upper end still has deep snow on it now but it will clear in another month.

I’m hoping it will become summer here one day so I can remember what a hot day is like. On those hot days (of the past) it would be perfect to be in the woods on those trails or by that creek.

Those hot summer days have no appeal for me any more. I have a hard time tolerating the heat. I do enjoy being in that canyon though when it’s hot here because it’s usually about 20 degrees cooler there and always shady..

Yes, a great retreat and close. A bit of a climb up to the canyon, but cool when you get there and all down hill on the way back.

I like the way you led us down the trail, to that first glimpse of the creek, and then to the full, flowing water. It’s just gorgeous there. Is the forest floor soft and spongy? It looks as if it might be, with all of the decomposing matter, pine needles, and such.

Yes, the forest floor is soft with the accumulation all of the duff that falls from the trees, but also there are branches: clear them away and it’s quite soft and also damp. The slopes of the canyon are rocky (as is a lot of the trail) and nearly vertical. Overall it’s a wonderful place!

It is, although this morning maybe a little too cool. We had heavy rain during the night that turned to snow this morning. The mountains around the valley are white. It would be very wet going on that trail today!

It sure does, especially the sounds. On some other trails the sound of silence is the loudest sound, and that’s nice too.

It is really a great place. All summer there are different species of flowers in bloom along the trail as they go through their seasonal cycle, and a lot of wildlife also shares the area and uses the trail. I wish everyone had such a place near to them!
