Warm weather and rain have finally melted much of the snow at the valley level in this area and at long last I was able to visit a place, which for some reason hosts the first Spring bloom of buttercups in this whole region. A week ago there was a foot of snow on the ground up there, but today hundreds of buttercups were in full bloom on the tiny top of “Buttercup Ridge”.

I was looking at our buttercups last weekend, and thinking of you. I’m so glad that they’ve made their annual appearance. It was a long wait, but sometimes when seasons change, they do it quickly. I especially like the last two photos. The group of three, all at a different stage of bloom, is really nice, and that shy little bud is delightful!

oh my goodness, flower season has begun! So pretty.
I sink to my knees and above in snow still! My ponds are overflowing their banks……. not flowers yet. So good to see yours.

For some reason that I don’t understand, the buttercups bloom much earlier in that one little spot than anywhere else around here. Nearly all of the snow has melted here at the valley level where it gets some sun, but the shaded places are still loaded and there is plenty higher up. There is a small canyon just to the west of my house and it has had a nice stream from snow melt running for over a week now. I wish it would be there all year!

It suddenly turned warmer here, the snow started to melt and things started to grow. Amazing how quickly that can happen.

Nothing beats the shiny gold petals reflecting the light.
Sometimes I think the changing of the seasons is better than the season in full flower. It reminds us of the impermanence of life and how lucky we are to be able to see such a beautiful array of Mother Nature’s gifts. I’m so glad I live life in the slow lane now. I have a far better appreciation of it all.

I remember doing that when I was a kid too, but we did it with Dandelions. Yesterday I noticed a few Buttercups blooming in the valley too. Many other species will soon be joining them although today we are getting heavy rain.

I’m pleased that you enjoyed the buttercups Amy. They have been late arriving this year here because at their usual time there was over two feet of snow on the ground. They are blooming in profusion now though.
