Today I was invited to hike with a friend through a section of forest land (640 acres) that is owned by a friend of hers and which he has logged, selectively and carefully, since the 1940’s. It is my opinion that he really knew what he was doing.

He sure did (and aren’t those tree trunks straight too). Considered and thoughtful land management is a joy to behold.
I feel lovely and cool just looking at all that snow (being a hot day here in Aust. today).

How beautiful! What kind of trees are they in the first pic – the two tallest ones with tufted branches?

Those are Ponderosa Pines that have been able to grow without being crowded due to the way the forest has been managed. That area gets a fair amount of rain and lots of sun. If they are allowed to continue growing that way, in another hundred years they will be about 3 feet in diameter at the base. I share my front yard with two like them and they are awesome.

Yes, there were lots of birds throughout the forest. I have a lot at my feeder now too.

They sure are beautiful with snow on them. We got about 6 or 7 inches today.

Good that you are getting snow. Now if it isn’t too much… The big weather front that we have been expecting has stalled just on the other side of the Continental Divide. It’s still expected but several days later than originally thought.

Beautiful photos!
Snow looks so beautiful. We have a fresh blanket of it here in Alberta, but it came with -21C temperatures, so we admire the stuff from inside the house most of the time.

That’s cold! I think you are enjoying the storm that is supposed to move south into our area. They said now that it has stalled on the other side of the Continental Divide but later will cross and bring us night time temps much like those.

What a beautiful scene. And it’s wonderful to know that its beauty has been enhanced by careful management. I was looking at the sunlight filtering down into the trees — I suspect that’s a result of very careful cutting. There aren’t any empty spaces, and there isn’t any sense of overcrowding. It’s perfect.
