The snow level yesterday was about 6,000 feet. I don’t know if it will stay long this time, but possibly up there. The valley had just rain.

Beautiful. I’m almost afraid to say it “out loud,” but I’m sort of looking forward to that first snowfall.

We spent 6 hours on the high trails from the lookout along the ridge to the west and there was snow, sleet or hail nearly all the time we were there. It was so wonderful to hike in that area under winter conditions because usually in winter the snow and ice make it impossible to get to the trail head. The valley hasn’t seen snow yet.

Very little sound there, but lots of action from the wind; blowing clouds, swirling snow driving sleet. Just a wonderful day for a hike!

That’s very beautiful but it seems a little early. You might end up with a decent snow pack this year if it keeps up.

That snow is up nearly 7,000 feet so it’s pretty normal here this time of year. I sure hope we do have a good snow pack this year though; we really need it!

It’s beautiful up there as long as you are equipped for it. We had a terrific hike in the snow!

Beautiful! I ended up going to Priscilla Peak Saturday and there was just a dusting of snow, but I imagine it’s all white now!

I hope your Priscilla trip was good! Yes, it’s probably pretty white up there too. Yesterday we were out for about 6 hours in a good wind, snow, hail and sleet. Your timing to hike Priscilla was very good!

This was only the second time I’ve seen the peak and the lookout with a significant amount of snow.

I have a few pictures of the larch that I will post later. This was above the colorful trees. Near the top of the picture and a little to the right you can see a little yellow spot mostly obscured by the clouds. It is a fairly large patch of larch far off on another mountainside.

Glorious! We had the first sprinkling of snow on the mountains yesterday – Colin photographed it on his way up through Glen Coe.

The high country here has had several snows already but none in the valley yet. It was really nice to hike in it as it was falling!

Ah, you answered my question! I spotted that color, and wondered if that wasn’t a bit of lingering autumn in the midst of all that snow. It’s truly beautiful. I haven’t had to drag out any of the cold-weather clothes I brought with me on my trip, although I did move to long pants — as much for the hiking as for the weather. It’s been beautiful here in Kansas,although the ragweed and dust from the soybean harvest are a little overwhelming!

I hope you’re having a good time on your visit there! It has gotten colder here now and very wet, for which I am very grateful! The snow is still up high, but I really love getting up there and hiking in it!
