    • It’s really a gorgeous mountain! I wish I had time to explore a bit there. There were signs to wilderness trails.

    • I imagine there would be skiing there. I’d love to ski down from the top!

      • Without an avalanche catching up. It looks slippy and slidey.(I don’t think that’s a word. The spellchecker doesn’t like it – with or without the “e.”)

  3. There are several trails in the Mount Shasta Wilderness and the skiing on the mountain is fantastic!

    • I would love to see those trails, although I suspect they may be heavily traveled.

      • Actually, most of them receive very little use. The trails on the east side of the mountain are mostly used only by climbers heading up the mountain, and those routes only consist of about 10% of the summit attempts. Even the more accessible trails are too heavily used.

  5. Now, this is a mountain I know! I first saw it — well, actually its refracted image — from the top of Mt. Diablo, in the Bay Area. The conditions have to be perfect, but I knew someone who was fascinated by the view from Diablo, and he knew when to go look. it wasn’t a clear viewing, of course, but there it was. I’ve only been in the area of the mountain itself a couple of times, but it is a beautiful sight.

    • Yes, it’s beautiful! And what a refreshing contrast to the traffic and congestion all around it.

  6. Amazing sight. Is that water between your vantage point and the mountain?

    • The photo was taken from a view point along the highway. The foreground is all forest. I wish I would have had the time to explore and photograph more of it.

    • The clouds were just right at that moment! At over 14,000 feet, the mountain can be seen for many miles in every direction.

  10. Beautiful! I think some of the UFO people think that there is an alien base somewhere in there 🙂

    • I did see some UFO signs up when I went through. I thik there was some kind of convention going on. Didn’t see anything like a UFO though.

  11. Isn’t it pretty? We drove through there on one of our trips to CA when we lived in Oregon. You must go back and explore those trails one day.
