The mountains above the road are protected roadless area and the road makes an approach possible. It’s just across the river from my house and so I can visit there often.
Great view and of course a beautiful subject. I went out into the bayou’s myself yesterday and did some boating and some walking around. Of course everything down here is flat so there are no vistas like this.
It’s a beautiful place. I wish I could show it to you in person Vicki: perhaps if your are looking for guide in that next life… I can’t imagine that I will be any place else.
I looked at that first photo, and remembered something that’s been buried for years, both tune and lyrics: “Down in the valley, valley so low, hang your head over, hear the wind blow…”
The peaks and valleys certainly do belong together. In this case, both are beautiful.
I’m pleased with it because it adds a couple months to my access to the back country. And the challenge of riding in winter conditions is also enjoyable.
Handy vehicle

Yes! That’s why I love the high mountain roads and trails. One can see the world differently.

I feel lucky to be able to visit Montana every year. It’s something Gary and I look forward to for months before we go.

That’s a beautiful view to be able to look out over. Well worth the ride, I’d say.

Thanks Reed! There is no end to the views from the mountain tops here. It is a little work to get there, but well worth it.

I would have enjoyed your trip too. I loved the coastal region of North Carolina and spent a lot of time there.

The quad gets me closer to the trail heads in winter, but it’s still too early to get to the high ones.

Getting to see scenes like that is one of the things that keeps me driving the back roads and hiking the high trails.

You are right, that old song fits the picture. The valleys look so different from above and it gives a very different perspective.

It’s fun to ride, and lets me go where larger and heavier vehicles cannot go on the roads in winter.

That’s the valley in which I live. It is blessed with those mountain ranges with 7000 ft peaks lining both sides of it.
