    • Yes, other than a little thin, he wintered well. He’ll be really pretty come next fall!

  2. Lovely shot. He sure looks a little lean at the moment. What beautiful shaped horns he’s got. Do that breed all have such rounded horns or do they get misshapen as they age?

    • The horns are permanent and continue to grow. The horns on a very big and old ram will complete a circle.

  3. After looking at him a little more closely, he does seem healthy. His coat is lovely. Add some weight, and he’ll be a handsome one, for sure. And what a great photo. I’ve stopped bringing home so many under-and-over exposed photos, but I still am having trouble getting that kind of crispness. Practice, practice!

    • The nice detail is because I was only about 20 feet from him. Often they will tolerate me being close to them.

  4. He doesn’t look too bad, considering. The way that grass is greening up he’ll be back to full health in no time. The whitetails here are looking real good.

    • This mild winter has been kind to the wildlife. The deer and elk that I’ve seen are in good condition too. Haven’t seen any bears yet.

    • Yes, his coat is unusually nice for spring. They usually get very ragged as they shed much of their winter coats.

  7. That shows that he had some hungry days, but at least he made it through.

  9. Beautiful and strong animals, they are. I love his almond-shaped eyes. He is patient, yes, but hungry too ! A great picture.

    • They are indeed, and amazingly agile. For the most part they live pleasant lives in the relative safety of their steep, cliffy habitat.

  10. I saw white back. Are the white in winter as some reindeers in Finland? Love the photo.

    • They retain the same color pattern in summer and winter. Their winter coats are very thick and a little darker in color and in summer, much thinner and lighter.
