It is! I’ve learned that when the sky is clear in winter, one has to take advantage of it. Yesterday when the storm came in, it was nearly a white-out, then cleared and got cold overnight.
I’m fortunate to be able to walk from my house down to the river where this was taken.

After all of the smoke we had in the air this summer, that clear air is a wonderful relief, even though it’s cold.

That’s a beautiful scene! I hope you’ll get your usual snow amounts this year. The news of the snow packs shrinking each year is a bit disheartening. So many people rely on it.

Yes, I hope the snow pack will be heavier this year too. Last year it was very light. This little snow is pretty but not enough to do much. I haven’t gotten up high yet though to see what’s going on up there. There are a few cars running around with skis on top already.

What a beautiful sight to greet your day.
Such a flawless blue sky too.
I can almost ‘smell’ the fresh air and it must be so invigorating walking outdoors in it.

Yes, it was a beautiful morning with the clear sky and bright new snow. The air temp was 12º F so it felt crisp. It was only a mile walk to get the photo (and a dozen more).

Even though it’s sunny, it looks really cold there. Bright and beautiful though. I don’t know why I bother to say that. You know how I feel about Montana. I should move there!

It is very pretty when Arctic air moves in here. Supposed to get down to 2º F for the next two nights. Southeast of here they expect sub zero nights. I’m just about acclimated to the winter temps, so the cold air feels good. I put on a down parka this morning and it was actually too warm for much walking, but it helps keep the camera warm.

We call them blue northers here in Texas (and have, historically) for just that reason: the strong north wind following a front clears out the humidity and any smog, and leaves us glorious, blue skies. No snow, though! Only now and then will we get snow: I’ve seen it four or five times since 1973. It’s been days and days of gray here, so it’s a treat to find a little reminder of blue skies to come.

I hadn’t heard of blue northers, but I can understand the name. We get this Arctic air several times during most winters and they bring in about a week of sub-zero temperatures a beautiful blue skies.
