Montana Outdoors 
A dusting of snow gives the trees such a magical look, almost as if they were dabbed with a white brush.They’re all beautiful but I think I like the last one best. Maybe because of that last bit of colour at the side of the road..

Stunning scenery.
This might be the best time to photograph that area as you get that lovely contrast between the green and white.

The contrast is nice surely. It will not be possible for me to get to that area many more times this winter as the snow builds up. I will enjoy it while I can.

Snow this early isn’t unusual but so far it seems that we are getting fairly wet storms moving across. Rain in the valleys but over about 6000 feet it is starting to pile up. East of here there have already been two people caught in an avalanche.

I love the photographs that show a glimpse into the warmer valley. The contrasts, especially with the larches, is beautiful. And the way the snow piles up on the branches is so appealing. The later, winter photos will be dramatic, but these truly feel transitional.

At the moment it is transitional. These were taken between 5000 and 6000 feet. The abundance of deer tracks there tells me that they have not moved down to get out of the snow just yet. The snowshoe rabbit tracks says that they are setting up housekeeping for the winter. Last week I saw one and it was pure white already.

I enjoy considering the difference between the seasons there and here. I do love having the four distinct seasons here. I know some folks consider winter to be oppressive but I love its cold beauty (and of course I’m adequately equipped to enjoy being out in it).

Now that I’ve been in it and in a few showers as well I’m anxious to see a good snow storm move into the valley. I will go out and walk in it until it quits.

The mountains enhance the effects of every season. I could never live away from them again. I’m still hoping for some good snow conditions in Glacier Park this winter so I can go on a few snow shoe hikes there when it is not so crowded.

Absolutely magical! I bet the air is fresh and cold. We’ve had our first snow here today – wet and wild, came in a blizzard but didn’t stay around. There will be some lying on the hills, though.

Yes, the air feels so good! This is a beautiful time of year!
I’m surprised at the similarities between our climates. I think in mid-winter it will be a little more harsh here though, especially when we get cold fronts coming down from the Arctic.

These winter photos are gorgeous. We had heavy snowfall in Mid-Finland. About 70 000 households were without electricity few days!

That must have been a very heavy snow! Several hundred miles to the west of us many thousands have been out of power too because of a storm with high winds that took out hundreds of miles of power poles.

Since that day the weather has warmed and most of that snow is gone. It will be replaced later this week with a fresh blanket of white according to the forecast.
