That’s what I was trying for. On all photos except the last one I used single-point focus and spot metering.

They are amplified by the contrast between their colors and the green of the evergreens.

Oh, my gosh. Those are brilliant photos — in every sense of the word. And I appreciated that little note about spot metering and single point focus. I remember reading about those things in the book I got with my new camera. I’ll got back and re-read that. I’m finding that’s an easy way to learn, when there’s so much to learn — take on something new when it comes with a context.

Thanks Linda! One of the beauties of digital cameras is that you can experiment to your heart’s content with no expense, and I know exactly what you mean about learning. I’m still in the learning curve with a new camera too, and with it came a little book entitled “User’s Manual”. In it are just the very basics, but one night I was prowling around on the Nikon website and found another book (fortunately downloadable) for that camera called “Reference Manual” and it contains all of the really good stuff that help so much to know about how the thing works. I will be experimenting and learning for years to come!

Those colours are unbelievable – glowing from within. Love the deep violet of the shadows as well. Superb photos!

Yes, they do light up the forest. The trees with colored leaves against the green forest can be seen for many miles.

Especially in the forests that contain a lot of larch. The gold has left the trees and now covers the ground.

I’m only familiar with the larch from your posts, my reference is the aspen and other deciduous trees from the Wasatch…..

I have a few aspen in my yard and it seems that in a day they go from gold to bare. Nature is in a hurry some times.

Here fall can be very short some times. I agree, there is more volume of color than any other time of year. This year it has been exceptionally nice.
