This was between 5000 ft and 6000 ft. Wish I had had the daylight left to hike that trail a few miles!

It looks incredibly beautiful but I did get a surprise! I was just looking at lovely spring flowers on your other post and now it’s snowing? What a different part of the world you live in. I would love to be able to see this in person. Thanks for the magical photos. 🙂

That’s one of the delightful things about spring here. It was cold during the night, but later today all of that snow will be gone, and the plants up there have seen it all before so they are not damaged. I sure enjoyed it!

Beautiful!! I feel like I can smell the pines. We had hail yesterday and there is fresh snow further up, on the mountains – after such warm weather last week!

Variances in elevation have some very interesting effects on weather as well as the various life forms that line in such places. I’ve always been fascinated by that… and stay prepared for it!

I had driven out of the lower country where it was raining and climbed up right through the transition area into a winter scene. Beautiful!

We have our lovely snow-on-the-mountain plants, and you have — well, snow on the mountains. The photos are lovely. It looks like a wet snow, and my hunch is it will soon be gone. But the moisture’s good. A few years ago, another Montana friend posted photos of some truly significant snow covering his ranch, including the lilacs in full bloom. Nothing was harmed, and spring got back to business after only a few days.

These spring snows are very beautiful and usually don’t do much damage, but they can be dangerous for anyone who isn’t prepared for them. That snow will be gone by noon today even tough it got down into the upper 20’s last night.

Hi Montucky, Warm and wet here in FL today. Guess up your way in the gorgeous mountains, you get unpredictable weather. It did snow in June up in Yellowstone last year while I was there. Have a hopefully warmer day tomorrow!

I was actually hoping for a spring snow, but other than a few flakes one day last week, nothing. We’re very in need of moisture after an unusual, almost snow free winter … the East got it most of it. There’s something so peaceful about those spring snows … your photos have that feel to them ….

About four years ago I encountered about the same amount of snow from the elevation at which these photos were taken and it continued on to the top of the mountain which is about 2500 feet higher. I spent a wonderful day hiking through it and taking pictures. It was late in June. When I returned to the valley, no one there was even aware that the top of the mountain had any snow at all because it was in the clouds.
