I was so engrossed with watching the snow that I don’t recall it being cold. I think the Center could have a lot of members!

It was not as much as I had hoped, but over a foot fell in the mountains around and further north there was a lot more.

I don’t think that any of us at the Center are much at photography, but we all try and once in awhile something works out. The fun is in trying and figuring out what wa done wrong.

The trees were pretty well decorated this morning and were shedding snow all day. Not much melted and there are three days of very cold weather coming up.

I was surprised at how well the camera did capture the scene. I had to convert the photos to black and white though because part of the lighting came from a big yard light that we have and it is a mercury-vapor light, giving the light an orange tint.

Those are great pics! What a difference the settings make. You’ve managed to turn that snow into rain just by adjusting the settings.

Shutter speed does a whole lot of things, doesn’t it. In the first one I used the flash, but in the others the slow speed made a natural exposure possible.

There is a little history in this place. The relatives who built those buildings have been gone for many years now, but preserving the place keeps their memory fresh.

When I was a child, this was where an aunt and uncle lived and where I spent a lot of happy days. I love the memories and the history of it and was very happy when we acquired the property.

It takes a lot of skill to capture a snowstorm using black & white, but when it is done well the results are amazing…Congratulations on a truly amazing job.

The photos are glorious. Please tell me you used a tripod. I’ve found that when I’m zooming in, or messing with slow shutter speeds, I might as well have Parkinson’s! We don’t have any snow, but we have cold (43F), fog, drizzle and rain. It’s not as good as snow, but we’ll take what we can get. That’s one of the fine qualities of the Easily Amused, I think — a willingness to take what’s offered and not pine away for something else!

Actually, these were hand held. At 1/25 or faster I can usually do fairly well but the last two were mistakes: I didn’t have the flash set and the camera gave me long exposures. I was very surprised to see that they turned out anyway.

From time to time I try a night photo. It’s something to be explored I think. I’ve seen many beautiful night shots but have never spent much time working on it.

Excellent set of photos! We have real winter now and we wait that the Lake Saimaa will be frozen enough that we can start walking on its ice!

Thanks! It must be a real pleasure to walk on that lake! Our lakes freeze over too, and people fish through the ice and sometimes skate, but nowhere near here is there a trail or path across a lake for just the fun of walking there.
