Montana Outdoors
Both of these photos are just stunning. I feel as though I could walk right into that top one and down the road … love them both very much.

Every day of the year, except when I’m in the back country, I walk several miles down that road. It is never tiresome, and often, when the light is right, it is spectacular. Some kind of an exercise room, isn’t it!

The colors are beautiful. I love it when the sun highlights the trees against a dark sky like in that first shot.

I love those days. There was a light rain falling but the sun broke through for a few moments, just enough to highlight the colors.

The first photo is on a road that I walk every day. The light was just right. For the second I had to drive about 10 miles to catch the morning sun on those trees. They looked the way I had hoped they would.

I’m glad that you enjoy the photos. My photos are nearly always just a function of being outside almost every daylight hour. Light conditions are so important to good photos and the only way you can catch it outdoors is to be lucky enough to be there when the right light happens.

Autumn here is certainly the season of the brightest and most color. I try to get my fill before the onset of the white season!

Sometimes I get lucky and encounter a nice scene when the light is perfect! Autumn provides lots of chances at that.

Hi Montucky, If I were you, I would print and frame the top photo – both are excellent. Great beauty there. I miss seeing the flaming reds, oranges, and brilliant golds of Fall foliage. We have Oaks that don’t shed leaves until maybe late Dec. or Jan. Our Sycamores do look golden for a week or two and then their leaves drop. Have a super great Thursday tomorrow!

That top photo is stunning. It looks like some of the best landscape painting I’ve seen, but it’s far more alive than that. One of my readers left a quotation from Annie Dillard on my blog tonight, and it seems to apply here:
“Four years I’d been living on that particular block, walking past one particular tree, and that morning I witnessed its transformation. The sun lit that tree and it shimmered red and gold; it was glass on fire, and if it could have made a sound, it would’ve been celestial. This was shock and awe, I thought, as I stood staring up at it.If I could live in that light, I thought, if I could just not move and stay right here, I will be all right and it will all have been worth it.”

There are lots of good place to ride in this area. Right now it’s elk season and so there are a lot of horses out on the high trails.

That little piece of road displays most of the few deciduous trees that we have here. I would love to see some of the hardwood forests in the midwest and east coast this time of year.

I has been nice, but about half of those leaves have now fallen. Soon there will be snow to walk on and I like that too, especially the cold wind on my face. I always hate to lose that when spring comes.

exquisite autumn photos!
it is pouring rain here. I wonder how much longer the Larch can hold onto their needles….. autumn has been gorgeous this year.

It’s raining here too this morning, not hard but steady. I was out in the Thompson River drainage yesterday and saw only a few Larch that had all of their needles. The back roads are golden with fallen needles.
