Montana Outdoors
What a contrast to your previous photo of the willows. Those colors were vibrant and warm — this cool palette surely does remind that winter’s coming. The sky here looks so much like what I call a “winter sky” — thinner light, pale colors. And that single larch is a wonderful touch. I wouldn’t dare choose a single favorite from among your photos, but this one is very near to the top.

The previous photo of the willows was taken less than 24 hours before this one and were it not for the clouds it might be visible in this photo; about 3,000 feet below.
This photo was taken this morning on my way to a trail head. Not a bad way to start a trip!

Short and sweet, I like this picture. Nothing special just pretty. Kind of reminds me of our day when we were above the clouds. Take care and keep enjoying the great Montana outdoors!

Thanks Anneli. Scenes like this aren’t extremely rare, but it’s difficult to recognize the potential for them and get to such a vantage point at the right time. They are treats for me!

That kind of view isn’t available but for a few days in the year. The tall mountains just next to the valley create better odds for it happening.

I still remember specific scenes like this when I hunted with my dad over 60 years ago. I have sought them out ever since.
