Summer evening clouds

What a beautiful end to a summer day.

  1. That’s stunning! You feel as if you can just lift off and drift across into them!

    • This used to be typical of an evening in late August, but it has been absent for the last several years. This year the late afternoon or evening thunder clouds have returned and I’m enjoying every bit of them!

  2. Beautiful shot!

  3. It sure was! It’s amazing what evening sunlight can do to clouds.

    • It is. These clouds were tall enough to catch some sun after the valley was in near darkness.

  4. You can say that again! Lovely!

    • The clouds were still forming over a mountain range to the east.

  5. Fantastic photo Terry, isn’t that a bit late in the day to be so high up? 🙂

    • It’s fairly common here on late summer afternoons or evenings. I remember so many like this from when I was a kid.

  6. Great colours in those clouds. A painter would have fun with those.

    • It is! Cloud formations like those are just awesome, and when the light is just right they put on quite a show.

  8. What an incredible sight ! So beautiful and painting like. I love all those layers of shades in the clouds. Magnificent shot.

    • Yes, it was really pretty. Those big clouds are especially significant this year after several years when they were scarce.

  9. Dramatic! We have dramatic clouds this time of year, too.

    • This was one of my favorite times of the year when I lived there. I loved the monsoon season.

  10. Wow! I love how clouds change this time of year and become fuller, and so dramatic around sunset. Gorgeous photo.

    • I love those huge clouds, but today they were smaller and brought a steady rain. I enjoy that very much too.

  11. There’s nothing more impressive than watching summer clouds bubble up. It’s amazing how quickly they build and blow away. For several years we had a shortage of good clouds because of the drought. Now, we’re getting more tropical skies, and more building clouds. We don’t often get pinks and lavenders at sunset, though. It makes your photo even more special, to be able to see those colors.

    • On a hike last week we were on a peak and watched clouds form beneath us. That’s a thrill too.

    • Yes, the touch of color was nice. I love those big clouds and the promise of rain that they bring with them.
