Ahhh, what lovely photos, and what a happy dog! I don’t think I could cope with temperatures in the 90s but at least you can find some shade! That stream looks so inviting!

Every summer we get some very hot days, but the nights are cool. That little stream is ice cold and the canyon through which it flows stays quite cool because of it.

Lovely ‘refreshing’ photos, Terry.
I like the movement you’ve left in the water flow. So many photographers slow their shutter speeds down too much and get that white snow effect which I, personally, don’t like very much. I prefer to see a little movement in river rapids, waterfalls and tidal surges down the beach.

Sometimes I do use slower shutter speeds, but these were taken with a small point & shoot that doesn’t have that option. These were at 1/30sec. I’ve started using the little camera to keep my pack weight down, especially where the trails are steep and the weather is hot.

Your water certainly looks more refreshing than our water. No wonder the trail dog is smiling! Our water is slow-moving, brown, and at the nearest buoy to me just now, 85.8 degrees. You win the who’s got the best water? contest, paws down!

These little streams in the back country are excellent. The water temp is probably around 50 and the water quality is such that one can fill a canteen or water bottle from them.

That’s Molly, whom we adopted about 7 years ago from a shelter. Her first 6 years were not all that happy, but her last 7 have been. She loves to go on hikes and rides and get affection and respect. If more people had the character of that dog, we would have far fewer problems today!

It is that! I remember the first hike I took her on, she had never seen a stream and I had to show her that it was OK to get in it and drink.

I can only imagine how hot it must get in Florida this time of year. The heat here would be hard to tolerate were it not for the cool nights.

There are several such streams nearby and I cherish them. However, a ranger advised me last year that the water in the Cabinet Wilderness should not be used because giardia has been found i some of the water sources there. Ironically, more people visit many of Montana’s wilderness areas than visit many of the roadless areas that I personally prefer.

Yes, Giardia could/would be a concern, but those high-mountain streams look so deliciously refreshing that it’s been worth the risk a few times!

love this photo and the lunchroom posted previously. we got to go backpacking in CO about a month ago. My first primitive camping experience. so awesome. every time I saw the running water and the mountains I just wanted to cry-so emotional. loved it all-except for the altitude sickness. we made our summit too!!!

Yes. For her first 6 years she lived in kennels, never out. Now her very favorite thing is to walk the back country trails with me and it shows in her eyes.
