Photo was taken on August 24, 2012 from USFS trail 541 between Cougar Peak and Graves Peak in the Cataract roadless area looking toward the Seven Point Mountain area.
You reside in some of the most beautiful mountain country I’ve seen. It’s just so very different to what we have in Australia. Our mountainous areas are more a grey/blue/green with all the Eucalyptus trees. Yours are more a rich green colour (and sharper mountain peaks). Our outback & desert areas are red and almost treeless. (and I seem to remember back in 1976, central Europe was more green & gold with a softer amber light).
I don’t know whether you’ve travelled outside of your state, but it’s amazing how the light and landscape colours change over the world.
I have always wanted to see Australia, especially the outback, but will probably never have the chance in person. It’s one of the few places in the world that I would really like to visit.
I have lived in seven other states in the US but Montana has always been my home and I will not leave it again for any extended time.
I’ve had that feeling too, many times, but realize that there have always been people living here who knew the land and the best travel routes. Even so, crossing through it for the first time would have daunting!
I’m constantly aware of how beautiful our world is, Teresa. I liked this photo because I remember the trail following the very crest of that ridge, with views all around, and meeting there, junctions with other trails that branched out from it. The trail signs were all from the 1930’s.
That’s a beautiful site! – a little funny with the WP snowflakes but it works. Drove through Southern AZ yesterday and there were flakes atop most of the hills.
Yes, there are good trails there. Much of that scene is in an area with now roads at all, only old foot and horse trails that were used to take men, equipment and supplies to many of those peaks where they served on fire lookouts.
Every photo you post reminds us of how beautiful Montana is.

There’s really no end to it! That’s why I have ended up with so many photos.

The WP snowflakes do look a bit odd in this one. 🙂

I agree, but it is not unusual to see snow in the high country in August… or April… or May… or…

Beautiful, but I’m so glad that I don’t have to hike to the horizon. I don’t know how the pioneers ever managed it.

Yes. These tall mountain tops here let you see almost forever, and that’s a long ways!
