I had just climbed up from below the mists and when there was a little clearing through the trees I turned around and saw this scene. What a reward!

Funny that it reminds me of the fog coming in through the Golden Gate. The Marin hills looked much like those in the distance in your photo. Sometimes the fog would cover the entire brige, even the towers, and all you could see was the fog and the hills. Other times, it would go under the bridge, or just across the bridge deck. I was living in the Berkeley Hills, and it was the perfect place to watch the fog ebb and flow.

I’ve seen fog on the Pacific only a few times, but I remember seeing it over Puget Sound many times. It’s always a treat to be above it!
In the photo the tallest peak in the distance is 7,005 feet high and the ridge that runs to the right of it is called Sundance Ridge, one of my favorite places!

The looks in the photo are a bit deceptive. The small valleys below the fog hold only a small stream at the very bottom of the scene and a small river further on out. The fog that morning was a little over a thousand feet deep. It was a long, steep climb from the stream to the ridge from where the photo was taken.

Oh my! Now that there…that there…it’s just indescribable. It draws me in on so many levels – the light, the dark, the fog, the blues, the mountains, the trees, the clouds – all alluring. I think I’d want that one framed and hanging on my wall!

I may have a print made of that when I get the time. I’ve made prints of half a dozen photos and they actually look pretty nice in frames that I make myself.

My son and I were hunting that day. We left home at about 5:00 AM to drive to where we could start hiking up the mountain by daylight.
