Framed by the clouds

Over the eight years that I have maintained this blog I have mostly posted photos and/or stories in the current timeframe.

Because of a temporary (and very disconcerting) lack of mobility I have been unable to produce much new and fresh material. That is discouraging to me, but upon perusing my photo library, I have come to believe that there are still some photos there that some folks might find enjoyable, and I have decided that I will post some of them until I’m able to get out and about to a larger extent. I hope that you will find them interesting or enjoyable.

In the dead tree group at the center of your photo, the tallest one is obviously pointing the way forward. However, the young tree man behind him (on the left) is not paying attention. He is holding up a fish with one branch hand, and attempting to hang onto a wildly frozen tree lady with the other. Montana truly is a wonderfully beautiful and mysterious place!

- I like the story that you have seen! Is it really a wonder that the native Indians developed so many different beliefs concerning what they saw in these mountains? It is easy to become a party to visions and spirituality unknown to those who live only in the cities.

I love Mary’s story and your response …
I’m sorry to hear of your challenge. Take care and I will enjoy seeing photos yet unseen to me and even those re-veiwed. I always am inspired by their beauty and your love of the real world.

Dear Montucky,
Thank you for continuing to post your photos and commentary. I’ve been living in Montana for a year and I started “following” you shortly after the move here from the Deep South. I have fallen in love with my adopted state and your pictures are a window into some of the most stunning landscapes that are all fresh and new to me. I look forward to all your posts.   This is indeed a beautiful part of the world and I have always thought that it would be good to show folks who are interested some of the scenes that cannot be seen from the highways. Doing so has magnified and extended my love for the back country and increased my awe at what nature is all about. I realize how fortunate I am to be able to do this!

I never get tired of seeing these scraggly old trees that have fought the wind for so long up on those mountan tops. it says a lot for putting down good strong roots. I hope that knee heals quickly. It’s amazing what the docs can do with them these days.

Just remember – many of us who’ve come more recently to your blog will find much of what you post from the archives entirely new. Besides – do we listen to a favorite piece of music only once, or read a book just once? I have books I re-read every year, and music that I may listen to daily for a period of time.

There are even two or three posts I’ve put up every year, like the Cat Carols at Christmastime. People seem to enjoy them, even on a second or third go-around. I think the word that applies is “tradition”.

This one certainly is beautiful. I like the contrast between the stark, almost harsh trees, and the ethereal clouds. So lovely!

- Thanks Linda! I still have lots of photos that have never been posted. Often on a hike I will bring back 150 photos and post only a dozen. Many of the others aren’t bad either and I will draw on those. I enjoy reminiscing anyway. There are so many good memories!

Hope you can become more mobile soon, but in the meantime all the photos are always very
nice and as I no longer can get out into the “woods”, they are well received here.Nature is a
wonderful teacher for me.Thank you..

I’m sure there are many more beautiful images in your archives for us to look forward to, but I’m sorry to hear your mobility has been compromised – hope it’s not too serious and you’re able to get out and about again soon.

Terry, this is a beautiful photo of the Cloud Frame. I can only imagine the number of photos and memories you must have. Isn’t it wonderful to look back? I do hope that you are soon back in your hiking boots. That must be tough. Sending good thoughts your way. Maureen

- Thank you Maureen! Yes, I’ll be back on the trails again, hopefully soon enough to make a trip or two on snowshoes. My boots have a new coat of boot grease and they’re ready.
  Currently I am being fascinated at how much memory I retain of each of those older photos! Those are very good memories!
  In the mean time I have about 13000 photos that have never been published.

You know what? You could post the same photos over and over again and I’d still love them and enjoy looking at them. Since I haven’t followed your blog for 8 years, I know I’m going to see some treasures I didn’t know I missed. Hope you will soon be all fixed up and mobile again.

I’m sure there are a ton of great photos in those 13,000 unseen ones. It’s good to have a reserve to choose from. I’m low on them myself right now but it’s because it’s dark when I get home every night and I don’t have enough time in the morning to get any shots cuz I’m always in a hurry. So that only leaves weekends and I didn’t get any last weekend…We’ll all enjoy seeing your reserve until you’re back in action again…which I’m sure won’t be soon enough for you.

- It’s kind of a bummer when you can’t get out and encounter something to photograph! Today I resurrected an old pair of crutches and did get in a walk of about 3 miles on them. After a month of having very little activity, it was a pleasure, especially with the snow and cold air!

Do not give up. I really love Your photos, landscapes, life which You describe in Your post and letting me to know the part of world which has been unknown to me, but which I start to know slowly. You have done great work. BTW, I have been blogging now 4 years.
