That mountain top is at 7464 feet and the valley below is 2400, so it really appears to stand up in the air. I reached the bottom of the clouds at about 6300 feet and these photos were taken at just about 7300.

It was chilly. The sun wanted to be warm but the wind was entirely different.

It sure is windy here in eastern Montana and it does make a big difference in the temps.

I heard they had snow in North Dakota just before we arrived, but I don’t know if it is still there. Sure felt like it yesterday. Today is better.

I’ve seen the tops from airplanes a lot, but that’s nowhere near as wonderful as hiking high enough for views like these.

The conditions have to be just right and it’s hard to tell what it will be like up there until you get there. It’s worth a lot of effort though.

You could make your photos from up there look like you were in a plane flying above the clouds without too much trouble.

Especially when on the edge of a cliff. From the top of that mountain in clear weather I sometimes see small planes flying below me over the valley.

I’ve never seen black and blue look so lovely. It’s especially beautiful, the way the rocks are picking up the blue of the sky. What pleasure it must be to experience such things.

I don’t know all of the conditions that have to be met for this kind of thing to take place, but the difference between the mountain top and the surrounding low ground must be a factor as would the temperatures and humidity. Perhaps once in awhile Mt Lemon outside of Tucson?
