Montana Outdoors
Beautiful! I was wondering when the snow would arrive. Looks like time is short for high-country ramblings…

The current weather front seems to have dropped much less snow than was forecast. I’m still hoping for an Indian summer and a few more hiking opportunities before the snows start in earnest. Sure was wet today though at only 4700 feet!

Don’t know how I’d survive city living without your wonderful outdoor photos to feast on.
I particularly like this image. I like the depth, contrast and…………..the foreground, making one feel as though we’re on the hiking trail with you.

Thanks Vicki. I’m glad that you liked it. That will not be the only time I visit that lake. There is another above it and above that a high pass from which, I understand, the views are incredible.

This is one of my favourite photos of yours! The first autumn colours and a sprinkling of snow – you can see it’s still falling up there. Makes me want to get up into the mountains!

I have really gotten to like that wilderness. It is 147 square miles of scenes like this. Now that I’ve gotten warm and dry again I’m ready to go back.

It is pretty normal to have some snow by this time of year here. The high country has gotten a lot lately though.

Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing your passion; this will be my “go to” place when the fleas and thorns of the day crowd my trail. Rocks are OK as I can go over or around but those fleas just stick with me! Tromp on!

I think there was a pretty heavy snow up there followed by a lot of rain. There was water running everywhere including down the trail. I’m still hoping for a few clear days so I can get back there again before snow closes the whole thing off.

Geiger Lake is absolutely beautiful, it must have been a wonderful hike to get to the lake.

It sure is, Charlie! It’s a pretty easy hike, only two miles and a thousand feet vertical. We did it in cold rain, sleet and snow and got pretty wet, but elated. The trail goes on to Upper Geiger lake, then to Buck Pass that has some extreme views. As soon as there is a little better weather, this year or next, I will spend some time there. We even saw a cow moose and her calf on the way out.

The mix of colors is so lovely, but so are the low clouds. The time of transition is here, it seems. Is it my imagination, or are the trees on the right changing color slightly, too? The entire composition is calming and serene. I could use some time up there!

Time spent up there is time well used, I think! Yes, the low brush is just beginning to get some color to it. There are a few larch among the tall trees and they will turn bright yellow in about a month. I would sure like to be able to return there when the colors are out. It will depend on what the weather does. If it turns cold but stays fairly dry I might be able to make it. If it snows a lot then probably not. It’s one place though that I know I will visit again!
