Autumn rain and rivers go well together;
so do rain jackets and wide-brimmed hats and waterproof boots…
and taking wet pictures under an umbrella sky.

Montana Outdoors 
I can almost feel the cool, fresh outdoors, especially in the mushroom picture. I love the way you’ve used the pines to frame the first photo. Nicely done.

That’s a favorite spot on the river. It’s a short hike and the trees provide protection from the elements but allow visibility of the river and associated wildlife activity.

This one is a great river. Last week we dined on a nice big trout that came from there. I’ve fished it for over 60 years.

I’m a believer in that too, and include basic equipment in the same category. Bad weather days around home are great for testing the basics that I carry in my pack. Last winter I spent some time under that tree in a snow storm and actually had a relaxing nap under my poncho. Today a small umbrella did pretty well.

We had rain last week, and it was wonderful to smell the freshness. How anyone can call rain “gloomy” I don’t know. I’ve always liked rain and fog, and in a place as beautiful as this, it would be doubly enjoyable. Wonderful photos, especially the pine “framing”. At first, I thought your mushroom was a soaking wet bird!

I wander down there frequently and shelter under those trees to watch the happenings along the river, the eagles and ospreys fishing, beavers in the water, waterfowl on the wing and in their nests.. all the important stuff that gives the river its life.

I, too, especially like that first shot through the pines. Looks like a fun place to wander as I would love to watch (and photograph) all those animals and the happenings along the river. It’s always about the water, isn’t it, everyone goes there eventually.

We’ve had some snow waaay up in the mountains with the rain and much cooler temps over the last two days, so we might find a bit of snow up there, as well. I should have some pix posted on Sunday or Monday at the latest…. 🙂

Yes, the streams seem to have an extra sparkle to them. I’m looking forward to a trip next week where the trail follows a stream up to a high lake. Amazing things exist near water!

The river has come up only slightly, but even that is good. We have done better down here than in the Bitterroot River valley though. Lolo Creek completely dried up. Today I could see snow on the higher mountains all around.

Great photos; Love those sceneries. My opinion is that sometimes it is “refreshing” to see rainy photos. Your words: “taking wet pictures under an umbrella” sounded in my ears so familiar, because if You remember some of my posts presenting Poor-man statues, it was raining nearly every day on my photographic tour.

Hi Montucky, Your rain pictures are great! Love the river shots. Today should be a fairly nice day here in my area of Florida. Two days ago we had severe thunderstorms and it was very hard to find a bird out anywhere. Today the birds are out but silent due to Mr. Hawk patrolling the neighborhood shrieking his presence. Have a super good day today!

Starting soon, your weather and my weather will be very, very different!
We are seeing hundreds of flocks of birds now, all stopping by on their way south. A dozen flocks of Robins have visited in just the last few days. I will miss them during the winter.

Here we are enjoying the rain and cooler weather. Overnight we went from days that were 15 degrees above normal to days that are 10 degrees below normal with snow on the mountain tops. I like cooler a whole lot better than the heat!
