Montana Outdoors
I need to learn how to take photos like that. Mine turn out too plain with most of the pink and orange washed out. That’s a beauty of a sunset!

It’s fun to experiment with sunsets. I usually use a “vivid” color setting if the camera has that and use about -.7 to -1.0 exposure compensation. The cameras that I have want to overexpose everything and that helps to keep them from doing it. The setting for this photo were: ISO 125, -1EV, f/3.8, 1/80.

Ahhhh. Is that how you do it, Montucky.
It always takes me about 3 shots before I get it right and the colour good.

Love the tree silhouettes against the colors. The days are long here and with the bright shining moon this week … unless it is cloudy it is never dark here. Most nights, I do not even realize I should go out and look for a sunset (I have very tall trees on the west side of my house) … then all of a sudden the moon is shining. This is a great time of year … makes up for those extremely long winter nights.

Well, you know how I love sunsets – no matter how brief. Gorgeous. We’ve had a few of those too. By the time I run to get my camera, the sunset has disappeared.

The colors of our sunsets will be deeper for awhile unfortunately because of the smoke in the air from all of the fires around. There may be some pretty sunsets next week too because we should be getting some clouds.

I had to laugh because this has happened to me so many times. usually be the time I grab the camera and get back to where I can see it, the colors are gone.

That happened to me a couple of weeks ago when there was a very brief rain in the distance, just enough to make the most colorful rainbow that I’ve ever seen. When it happened though I was a half mile from home and by the time I went back for my camera it had gone away.

This is a beautiful picture!! One of the things I miss about Louisiana is the frequency of beautiful and vividly colored sunsets… don’t get that as much here, but I do get the mountains!

Thanks Sarabeth! This has been an unusually hot summer for here and with few clouds. Perhaps the weather change coming up will bring a few clouds and then with the smoke that’s in the air we could have some very colorful sunsets.

Thanks Scott, I think I will be OK. It’s a knee problem and there seems to be a solution. I plan to try a couple rather short hikes into the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness next week, which will be new country for me.

Yesterday I got in an eight mile hike in the CMW and the knee hurt some but held up quite well. Now a few days of rest then I have other trails in mind. What a magnificent place that wilderness is!

Eight miles is a good hike, especially with a bothersome knee…and I can imagine that the CMW area is quite magnificent. 🙂 I’m sure you’ll have pictures to share, right…?

We’ve been having extraordinarily beautiful sunsets recently – and long! Combinations of clouds help – when cirrus, stratus and cumulus are sharing space, it can be extraordinary. This photo’s so lovely – it’s reminiscent of our winter sunsets in terms of length. In the winter, it can be light – and then not!

For the past month and a half we haven’t had any good colors because there haven’t been any clouds. Our weather is changing now and besides cooling off a little we are getting some clouds. Tonight there was a nice sunset again. We are hoping for some rain. There are lots of wildfires around here now.

Beautiful! We get gorgeous sunsets here, too, as you probably remember but here in the middle of the city, any shots I take have power lines and other distracting things in them.
