Invitation to a walk

Molly

This is Molly. We adopted her from an animal shelter five years ago and she turned twelve on January third. It has been a rewarding experience for all of us and there should be many good years still remaining.

    • She is a very sweet dog. She has appreciated having a good home finally and especially having folks who actually listen to her and appreciate her presence.

  4. She’s quite a beauty. That little spot of color on top of her head reminds me of the old verse: there was a little girl that had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead. Granted, the verse isn’t a perfect fit, but I’ll bet it’s close enough!

    • Like to get out? That’s her passion! I had heard that her breed requires a lot of exercise and it’s very true. We walk a minimum of 3 miles a day, often more, and she is always more than willing to go. No trail is too steep.

    • Since Molly came to live with us, we learned to speak “Pointer” very fluently. In this photo, she is very Spock-like. Since her tail is not all the way up, she’s saying that she is a little annoyed that I am taking pictures instead of hiking with her, and the raised eyebrow is her way of asking when we will get under way.

  15. Awww, what a sweetheart! Miss Molly, I am so pleased to meet you. 🙂 I love that you can just see her personality shine through – and it’s all heart and eagerness. What a special friend she must be to you. When I was an ACO and worked in the shelter, I would really “sell” the older dogs; you would be glad to know how many of us were glad NOT have to deal with puppy-hood again 🙂 Was her front right leg where the coyote got her? I just love looking at her expressive face!

    • That was a growth on her leg, fortunately a benign one. The coyote nipped the other end.

When our previous dog died, my wife just didn’t want to go through that heart-break again, but we finally decided that if we could take a dog who had no other chance to be happy and give her a few good years it would be very worthwhile. She pays us back every day!

    • Yes, we have enjoyed seeing her become a real dog. She didn’t have that before. I even had to show her that a clear mountain stream was good to drink… and jump in.

She is an English Pointer, and comparing her to photos of them that I see, she must be close to pure breed.

      • Thanks for your reply, montucky. The dog we had before Ninio-the-Beagle was a lovely blending between an English Pointer and a Dalmatian. The hunter in her loved our daily walks to the woods, even more in the mountains. Mouchette lived 17 years, we adopted her in Africa, brought her back home and she will always remain in my heart. Your Molly has some of her looks too.
