Montana Outdoors
Are those poplars? The bark is very rough on those trees, isn’t it? This picture is particularly effective because you have the striking colour of the gold leaves against a soft background of the fog. Very impressive photo.

Those are Black Cottonwoods, close relatives of the poplars. These are actually 4 trees growing very close together, which is a little unusual. I couldn’t resist trying a shot with this morning’s fog.

Is fog a sign of the turning seasons for you? It certainly is for us. In another few weeks – or sooner – the sea fog will begin developing. I love fog, both for itself and for the way it pairs with things like these beautiful trees. A lovely, lovely image.

Yes, this is the fog season for us here. I’m not always sure if it is really fog or just low clouds. This time of year clouds seem to hover among the mountains, sometimes down to the valley bottom and that’s a sure sign of fall. It’s very beautiful when you can climb up high enough to get above the clouds.

That is Black Cottonwood, which is our largest broadleaf tree here. They really stand out when they turn color.

This year, I think my weather is a month ahead of yours. I had October Gold in “early” October. I love that time of the year .. enjoy it while you can, mine only lasted about a week this year … the leaves left way too fast.

Those trees have lost many of their leaves over the past two days and we are supposed to have a pretty good storm this weekend that may take most of the rest down. They sure are pretty while they last though!

I like the contrast here between the bright yellow leaves and the fog/mist on the road. We have one tree in the woods behind our house that’s also providing us with some November gold.

The storm descended on our valley just after noon (and just as I finished cleaning our chimney). It was gorgeous coming in with snow storms visible on all of the peaks around, then filling the sky over the valley. Beautiful flakes of snow came down all afternoon but tailed off after leaving just a few inches. I walked for an hour in the snow while it was coming down; exhilarating! The fire feels good tonight. I wish we could share with those folks in the northeast.

Hi Montucky, Our gold leaves are now either gone or have turned a crinkly brown. Yes, there still are a few trees with great-looking leaves but mostly, we are looking ready to have a crisp Winter here in TN. Your picture is wonderful! I hope you have an outstanding weekend!
