Montana Outdoors
I am so taken with this. The clarity of the reflections, the subdued palette, the delicacy of the frost are simply breathtaking. Tonight I get to enjoy truly freezing temperatures. By next week, I’ll have the chance to see a full moon on a cold prairie – I’m so happy to be able to experience just a little of this turning toward winter.

I’m glad that you will get to enjoy some of the changing of the seasons. A full moon shining on a cold prairie is an experience to be savored. I love the transitions, still enjoying the one that we are leaving yet looking forward to the new one coming up. Our highs for the past few days have been in the 30’s which seems cold after the hot summer, but I know that in a few months a day in the 30’s will be a warm one providing the first snow melt of the new year.

I’ve been hearing on weather forecasts that Montana had gotten some snow, but they made it sound like a blizzard instead of a dusting.

At my house at 2400 feet elevation, there was just a little. To get to this place I crosses a small divide of about 5000 feet and there was about 8 inches there. The mountains got a foot or two in many places. As far as I know there was nothing like a blizzard though in western Montana.

Thank you for visiting, Elizabeth! When I was a kid a relative owned a small cabin not too far from there and I spent a little time there during winter when the snow was deep. It was a wonderful place!

We are rumored to get a couple of flakes of snow (maybe!!!) on Tuesday night when it dips to around 30 degrees here in my area of the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee. That’s a little higher elevation than here at the house, so it may stay wintery until real winter arrives. Here I think we are about to get into a brief season that I don’t really like, the time of nightly freezing rains. It doesn’t bother us especially but it is always so hard on travelers.

Winter does have its own beauty. Those of who live here are used to it and are well prepared for it. For some it is the best of the seasons; others, not so much.

I haven’t figured it out this year yet. Now we’re back into the 50’s with rain and the snow is gone except up really high. Sure good to have the precipitation though!

Winter is fast approaching, isn’t it? Here it’s been crazy — 80 degrees one day, 50 the next, and now we’re getting rain, rain, rain from the hurricane that’s hitting the eastern seaboard. We are supposed to get wind effects and some flooding over on our side of the state too. I’m a little nervous as this is our oldest daughter’s wedding weekend coming up. Hoping we have power! Yikes!

Great photo as the scenery also. I could imagine hearing some sounds of some animal although the nature seems to be so quiet. This photo is something which one cannot ignore quickly, but it must be studied very carefully.

It does come earlier here, and we are supposed to get some again this coming weekend. Today it got up to 68°, but Sunday night is supposed to get down to 8°, with snow.
