Montana Outdoors
Wow! That`s beautiful. Is that a lake I see peeking through the trees on the lower left?

That’s the Clark Fork river. The road is one that is in front of my house.

You live in a beautiful place. We drove across the Clark Fork several times on our way out here (as it winds back and forth) and each time I wanted to stop to get out and take a picture.

I frequently see folks photographing scenes along the river. Besides being beautiful it is an important part of the watershed of the Pacific Northwest.

Perhaps not quite as good as it was long ago, but still, good. I am blessed because I can walk down in the evening and catch a nice trout on one of my flies. There is an old cartoon posted in the house that shows a fisherman standing before St Peter. The caption says ” Wait, I’m a trout fisherman. I was supposed to go to Montana”.

Well, the decision to move back here about 20 years ago was a good one. We are so glad that we did that. The point of your latest post really finds a home here. Just those simple little observations are so important and absorbing. They keep us in touch with the earth.

What a marvelous road you have! I do like the mix of colors – and you have color, not just brown. Have you had more rain? Are the fires beginning to decline?

Yes, we have had three days with some rain, although to total has only been about a half inch. I heard yesterday that the smoke from the fires is still bad south of here, but the current weather should blow a lot of it out of there and the rain has helped a lot with the remaining fires. The weather forecast now calls for some snow Monday night down to 2500 feet which is about valley level and the low will be 25. That will really help with the last of the fires.

Well, the leaves were getting some pretty color but we had high winds today that blew a lot of them away. The white stuff is coming next week they say.

Most of the orange maple leaves have fallen here but the oaks and beeches are starting to turn their usual deep reds and bright yellows.

We have few native maples here and they seem to be about half way through their color change. The Aspen have mostly turned at least at low elevations and the larch are beginning to show up really well. It is not a normal fall color season at all.

Yes, it is. The population here is so low that there is still lots of land that has not been highly developed and there are still places that are peaceful and relaxed.

We love it here for the beauty and the stillness. It is so much different from life in or near the cities. Tomorrow I must visit the nearest city and that will be about 180 miles round trip, the return being the best part.

Now we’ll be treated with some gorgeous photos from you! 🙂 Our leaves are peaking and starting to drop already, but it’s been a prettier fall than I first thought it would be. I just haven’t had much time to get out an capture some pictures of it. Looking forward to yours.

The leaves are turning quickly now and I haven’t been out as much as I would have liked to yet. I will be out this weekend but it is supposed to be a rainy weekend. There is always something of beauty in the forests though in all weather.

I think it is the sky at that particular moment. It looks like a spring sky, not a fall or winter one. I had rained not long before but the dark clouds had been swept off to the north to drop snow on the high country there.

It has been pretty, but the colors are only for a short time this year. We had some very strong winds come through and many of the leaves were blown off the trees and bushes. Still very pretty though.

This year has gone very fast for me too. I spent so much time working on a remodeling project that I didn’t get out as much as I wanted to. I could use another month before the snow sets in for good!
