I love the combination of rain and wildflowers, roses especially, and on days with light rain the light is wonderful for photography.

A rainy day is perfect for bringing out the color of wildflowers. I like being out on rainy days anyway and it is so good for the flowers.

This rose looks very similar to Rosa rugosa, which is an old, old favorite around here. Glad you’re finally getting some rain!

I saw some photos of rugosa in white too. Beautiful! It’s also interesting that it is native to the eastern part of the U.S. and then Washington state. Go figure!

Is this a wild rose? The one we have around here is called Wood Rose, I believe. Not quite as showy (though this close up, it might be!)

Yes it’s wild. I think we have Wood rose here too but I can’t remember where I saw them.

Wild roses are just about everywhere here in the valleys and they’re all so pretty and bloom for a long time too.

The rain is beautiful – so are the flowers! Lavender roses always stop me – I don’t expect a rose to be that color. There’s always a surprise! Is this prickly rose a wildflower? Where I grew up, roses always were planted by someone other than Mother Nature.

Yes, these are wild, one of about four species native to this area. They are abundant, especially along the larger streams and in the valleys. There’s a large area of them between my house and the river where they are so thick it’s impossible to walk through them. I grew up with the wild ones but my Mother always grew a variety of roses around the house too.

I agree that the raindrops do add another dimension. Raindrops and wildflowers go together! I do often use flash, but just the on-camera flash, and it seems to do fairly well.

I have a friend who swears lavender roses have the strongest scent. Do these? So pretty with the raindrops, now you just need the whiskers on kittens.

They are very pleasant to see here and seem to occupy areas where they are not intrusive, although sometimes it’s a task to wade through them to get to a fishing spot!

I stopped to take pictures of the first wild rose bush I saw of the season the other day. I much prefer yours sprinkled with water … these are gorgeous!

Thank you! I’m usually in luck here because I love to photograph in the rain and in spring there are many rainy days. Later in the summer when I can get into the high country I like some sunny days for landscape photos though.
